It's pretty clear by the end of it that Ross was sacked for off field reasons, the media that followed him by the end was not sustainable by the club.

We would have been pushing finals this year with him for sure.

Our group should only improve this year as long as we fill the winger roles effectively, which seems possible following the Marsh series.

All aboard the JL train, leading us to finals this year.

Nah that's not true.
He was let go but not because he had lost the players.
Some on here to let go of the Ross fascination,
I don’t think players 25-40+ on the list were that upset when Ross was sacked.

I get the feeling that group of players will benefit the most from a new age relationship based coach. We may be seeing that improvement already.

Anyway, media suck.

So Peel will be improved? 25-40+ on the list shouldn't be determining the head coach.

Yeah, your not really getting the point.

Rosco coached a team, not a club. His style was getting outdated by the year & once any amount of injuries were incurred the talent fell away quickly & so did the season. The so called best 22-25 were rooted, carrying injuries or injured.

The reliance on those top players was unhealthy & the those 25-40+ players were not prepared. This isn’t a guess, this is from talking to those players. A number wouldn’t get any communication from Ross for weeks & were frustrated.

He was great for the club & made the club relevant, but we need a coach who is recently educated in all facets of coaching.

The Level 4 coaching course that Longmuir completed is amazing in reinforcing a manager style coaching that includes encouraging all members of the playing list & coaching staff to have an input into the success & failures of the club.

Everyone is responsible & a proven byproduct is loyalty. Have a look at Fagan up at Brisbane. Players are staying & others are wanting to get there. He is this coach. Lachie Neale says hi.

TWO THINGS WE LEARNED
1. Griffin Logue is ready to take his chance
With their two top-line key defenders sidelined, the Dockers have turned to Griffin Logue and Brennan Cox to tackle the oppositions key forwards. Logue has been the good news story for the Dockers, with the fourth-year defender bigger, stronger and ready to make his mark. He kept West Coast champion Josh Kennedy to one goal and has given new coach Justin Longmuir confidence he can hold together a new-look back six that thrived against the Eagles.

2. The Dockers have found the right balance under Justin Longmuir
There have been two planks to the Dockers' game style in 2020. The first is safe ball movement out of the backline, which has resulted in a significant lift in uncontested marks (106 and 104 in their two Marsh Community Series matches). Then there is the midfield rush when they take dangerous options and move the ball quickly to get deep and effective inside 50s. It's an exciting style that players say has allowed them to "express themselves". Whether it is a winning style, time will tell. But in an eight-minute, five-goal burst against West Coast it was fun to watch and effective.

STILL A MYSTERY
Who will play on the wings?

This seemed to be settled when Blake Acres and James Aish controlled the opening pre-season game against Carlton with a combined 55 possessions and 10 inside 50s, but Acres' serious hamstring injury has opened one slot. Cam McCarthy played the role well against West Coast, while Brett Bewley is in the mix after a massive pre-season. Draftee Michael Frederick has excited in training but was left out of the West Coast clash. McCarthy has the edge over Bewley on pre-season form. – Nathan Schmook

That's massive news.

On my rossy view.
I love Ross & forever grateful for our first grandy. We may have had injuries last year but for whatever reason we were lacking effort for a lot of the year.
Some players looked despondent out there. And once you got passed your fyfes & your Walters I don't think too many players were on board.
I just don't think Rossy was as adaptable as he claimed to be..

We won the footy and pressured well all season, we just didn't have the structure or ball use in the back half of the season to hold up. A lot of the players put up social media photos and posts with Ross after he was sacked. Not something that common and shows the strength in their relationship. Ross also said approx 15 players came over to his house that night and had beers with him.

I think it's safe to say the vast majority of the players loved Ross. But that's not to say they won't love or thrive under JL. A change can be good for everyone and the players won't lose what Ross taught them.

I'm not fussed to whether Ross was a good bloke or the players liked him. No club in world sport sacks it's CEO and coach and takes a $1+ million loss because they feel things were on track.

So comments suggesting that JLo just has to follow the path Ross set to make finals doesn't sit well with me.

Of course not. Every club in the world is a meritocracy.

No one cares , get over it. He is gone, you pushed the agenda , you got what you wanted . Be happy and move on.
Most on here are sick of the Lyon rehashing.

Cool. Let's not mention him then and move on. Especially not as some kind of imaginary yardstick for this year.
