Clarification Bruce...sorry, The Big X.

100 games.

1) as at last Saturday in September 1971; or

2) went on to play 100 games or more for the Hawthorn FC.

3) went on to play 100 games or more VFL/AFL football?

Top stuff - LMoG

I had 16 in my mind which you eluded to (20 - 4 = 16)

Other info very interesting 5 had 100+ up to 1971 and only 4 of the 20 didn't finish with 100+ when they finished their careers with the Hawks.

OK posters put your questions forward to keep this flowing:thumbsu:

Mathews
Moore
Martello
Heath and Rice
went on to play 100 games for Hawthorn
In my previous post all meant players who played 100 games

Edit, protest call it what you will

Add Geoff Angus to the players who did not play 100 games.
So it is 15 and 5

the famous man himself:D

I accept the protest to the man who protests against his own answer:eek::confused:;):p
whatever

Glad that there is not a ******** icon

I claim that the 1971 team is the youngest and least experienced of all the Premiership teams. And the best:)

Let's say I wore 2 different numbers in Hawks Premierships and those numbers were 2 and 16.

If those two digits were combined to either 216 or 162 and either of those numbers matched the total number of games played, then it would be pretty remarkable.

I know of one player whose numbers do match the total number of games played.

Who is he?

There may be more

Yeah I know, the question is clear as Glenferry mud.

Congratulations Market,you are exactly right.

Does anyone know of any other?

Edit.Barney was the greatest player ever.

Bar one.

Correct Dr. McClelland Trophy

Agree 1961 & 1971

Disagree 1976 and 1978. Both those years won by The Kangaroos.

Added these 2 for good measure - obviously bad measure:(

I'm off for the night - questions open for all:thumbsu:

Rusty's question reminded me of something.

How many times have the rules been changed after a Hawthorn Premiership?

And what were the changes?

The reasons are obvious.

TAITA

Do you concur with The BIG X'S suggestion that the thread have more than one question?

I know of two that were deliberately changed to counter Hawthorn's tactics.

Some obvious rules changes include...the centre square after playing Huddo one out in the forward line and having 17 on the ball(a bit of an exaggeration!)
the deliberate behind rule after the 2008 GF

after 2008
rushed behinds
holding or blocking a player after he disposes of the ball

these rules but I don't know what years
introduction of a salary cap
changing the 15m penalty to 50
abolishing the zone recruiting system
bringing in the center square

These were the ones that I was looking for.

As Rusty and FEV99 said there have been many changes but the above two were specifically aimed at Hawthorn.

I would not say that playing 17 on the ball is an exaggeration.

By saying that, it would mean opposition forwards played out of position and that didn't happen in 1971.

Reckon this one came in the 60's (not a Hawthorn Premiership year) - but strictly as a result of John Kennedy (Snr) having the forward line open for Peter Hudson.

Jack Clarke (ex Essendon) who was an Architect brought in the Diamond (which was a disaster) then later became the square.
