Who do the selectors play scapegoat with first; Khawaja, Labuschagne or McSweeney?

My money is that McSweeney gets dropped and the former two survive.

George Bailey’s credit policy runs even deeper than Simmo’s.
Apart from Boland for Hazlewood, I don't think there will be any changes unfortunately.

I can't see any changes happening but I wouldn't be upset if Marsh was dropped, or even Mcsween bean or Khawaja (but honestly who would come in to open?)

However the one bowling change is what I expect.

Selfishly wouldn’t mind Marsh coming back and playing at the scorchers. Hopefully they release Inglis too if he doesn’t get a crack on Boxing Day.

We've been well on top in this Test. Changes will be minimal unless it's the Haze injury. Got over a week to rest up and there's been plenty of disruption so it's not like we've played 5 full days.

May be some sore bodies to consider after the Boxing Day Test but if you're expecting widespread changes after completion today I'm just not sure it's going to happen.

Not sure what the weather is saying but I would’ve thought you’d just declare instead of sending the bowlers out to bat to try and hail mary it for a win today?

Can’t see India making that total in the time left anyway so why make our bowlers bat?
To make their bowlers bowl.

Where would you rate Ashwin amongst all time spin bowlers

Obviously Warne and Murali are in their own category, untouched.

Then next on wicket tally it is Kumble, Ashwin and Lyon (debut same year as Ashwin, and has managed to play 30 additional tests). Ashwin has the better average than those two, but fewer wickets (Lyon will overtake him shortly).

Then a further rung down you have Herath, Harbhajan and Vettori, who I would rate Ashwin above quite easily.

I rate Ashwin very highly, especially once you factor in 6 Test centuries.

With any subcontinent spinner I think you have to look at their figures home versus away, given how favourable the subcontinent is to spin.

Home he bowled 127 innings, taking 383 wickets at an average of 21.57.

Away he bowled 71 innings, taking 150 wickets at 30.55 - which is obviously not as good as home but also is not bad!

Contrast that to Jadeja who is an absolute wrecker at home (238 wickets at 20.71) but more pedestrian away from India (76 wickets at 34.03).

Anyway, of the Indian players I’ve always found Ashwin to be one of the most likeable and humble. Very good batsman as well, albeit not on the level of Jadeja. Deserved better than to bow out after a washed-out test that he’d be dropped for, but I guess he just felt now was the right time.

Worth noting that Ashwin retires four wickets ahead of Lyon, and as long as Lyon doesn’t get hurt he’s pretty much guaranteed to play in Melbourne and Sydney, as well as the tests in Sri Lanka. Even if he doesn’t catch Ashwin in the domestic tests (he’s had a lean series although to be fair the Indian spinners have done nothing either, as the conditions have seemed heavily favourable to pace bowling), it’s damn near impossible to bowl spin in Sri Lanka and not take a few wickets. Lyon’s ceiling is probably ending up 6th on the wickets list (he needs 30 to catch McGrath) - Broad at #5 (71 wickets ahead) is probably too far.
