All teams make mistakes and have skill errors.Absolutely. Human error is part of the game. It will always have human error. The only way around it would be to turn the game into an NFL style review free for all where every play is scrutinised. Could you imagine, Smith kicks out from full back to Dawson on the lead, Dawson marks. The review and umpires then look at every aspect of the play and over turn it because Hinge held onto Papley for a brief moment in the pocket and now Papley has a shot for goal. He misses, but the review system picks up that Hinge over stepped the mark by a few centimetres while jumping to block the kick so they take Papley to the square.
Look the fact is players decision making impacts games far worse than a single umpiring mistake. We probably had several chances to win the game long before the umpire got involved. Sometimes it goes your way other times it doesn't. We really need to stop acting like it cost us a premiership. Because it certainly didn't.
bahahaha all will be forgotten from the AFL.The arrogance of that goal umpire to believe he was 100% correct and not have a single doubt with the decision is just unbelievable.
The results of R24, now make his mistake arguably the worst ever in modern day H&A games in terms of impacting a team's Finals aspirations.
The AFL really needs to compensate the Club here. I dont know what that should look like, but it needs to happen.
Apologies, I only just saw your post.I agree with the sentiment the AFL handled this poorly after the umpire made the mistake.
But, what grounds are there to replay the extra time? Umpire mistakes happen all the time. Should we replay the period after Dawson's non free as well? AFL admitted that was wrong.
Once the AFL do that, they have opened a massive Pandora's box of precedent.
It just can't happen.
The real answer is to get better umpires.
Daniel Hoskin's eyes should have seen the gap between ball and post. If he heard a noise, there is doubt
Call for a review. It is that simple.
We are not playing Finals because one Umpire decided he was correct and was too arrogant to call for a review
Incompetence and arrogance is a bad mix for an umpire.
Get rid of him.

No it wont.bahahaha all will be forgotten from the AFL.
Have you ever been to a Grand Final, mate?
I've been to 25 of them since 1990
I think I know what I'm talking about.
Interstate travel aside, in terms of noise for both teams, they're about as "neutral" as any AFL final gets.
Same ump that called the Jenkins goal incorrectly He should have been terminated then. Maybe he felt he needed to make up for that poor decision by being harder on us. In any effect he has done two howlers and needs to go. He obviously has vision problems so you can't do that job being visually impaired. The arrogance of that goal umpire to believe he was 100% correct and not have a single doubt with the decision is just unbelievable.

Was listening the 3AW on the weekend, the commentary was basically, mistakes happen all the time, Crows are sooks and should get over it, they should've been better in that and other games and then they would be playing finals anyway. And that the Crows are kidding themselves that there will be any compensationProblem is the AFL, commentators etc won't even mention it.
Should be pushing for those things independent of thissure as s**t should be pushing for no sunday twilight games, and a return to friday night footy
also games in prime time MCG slots (friday night/saturday night)
That's what you would expect from Vic media. If it was Collingwood they would be up in arms and you would never hear the end of it. We won that game and the swans never deserved the 4 points. The fact the umpire didn't allow everyone to see what happened in the last 70 seconds isn't our fault. Was listening the 3AW on the weekend, the commentary was basically, mistakes happen all the time, Crows are sooks and should get over it, they should've been better in that and other games and then they would be playing finals anyway. Rosebury (the controlling and most senior umpire in that game) stated he thought it was a point and so didn't think a review was necessary eitherThe central ump should have told the swans player to put the ball down. The central umpires most likely knew it was a goal and choose to allow a mistake. I bet if the mistake was penalising the swans they would have intervened. The AFL wanted the swans in the finals and the umpires possibly thought they would be rewarded with a big final if they helped the AFL achieve their objective. The mistake the central umpires made is that they went way too far in favouring one side. Doing nothing about a blatant mistake is being complicit which is what the field umpires did. That's why we must have the ARC directing field umpires and goal umpires. A mistake like this must never be allowed to repeat itself.
Of course he is going to say that. I'm sure they knew it was a goal and they couldn't be bothered standing up for the right decision. It's pretty obvious who the unps wanted in the finals.Rosebury (the controlling and most senior umpire in that game) stated he thought it was a point and so didn't think a review was necessary either

Why people peddle this give us both 4 pts is a mystery to me. We would still miss the finals if that happened, and have a worse draft pick. Literally the worst case scenarioThere was no need for a replay. The AFL should have awarded 4 points to the crows as well as the swans. It's not our fault an umpire can't do their job properly. This would have resulted in the correct team making the finals which was us.
Who the AFL wanted anyway, the umps are just the method they used to achieve this. Some of the umpiring in the first half was discgracefulOf course he is going to say that. I'm sure they knew it was a goal and they couldn't be bothered standing up for the right decision. It's pretty obvious who the unps wanted in the finals.
We could have still made it if gws lost. Basically the swans made out like bandits. They are awarded 4points and didn't even need to win the game being 4 points down with 70 seconds to go. They had scored 1 point all quarter. They weren't winning that game. Why people peddle this give us both 4 pts is a mystery to me. Didn't see that as a shot at us, Advertiser has to sensationalise it for some reason though.....Geelong taking the piss out of us on mad Monday

What was wrong with his call on the Jenkins goal though? Called a goal but reviewed. That's all you can ask for.Same ump that called the Jenkins goal incorrectly He should have been terminated then. Oh I agree, there was virtually 0 chance we would've lost. It's the 'virtually' the AFL has used to gift the Swans the game and finalsWe could have still made it if gws lost. Basically the swans made out like bandits. They are awarded 4points and didn't even need to ein the game being 4 points down with 70 seconds to go. They had score 1point all quarter. He's adelaide based. Can you imagine what will happen to him the next time he umpires a Crows gameWhat was wrong with his call on the Jenkins goal though? Called a goal but reviewed. That's all you can ask for.
Not sure either how it's become an accepted fact that it definitely hit the post either. I remember hearing different accounts from people at the ground for both a goal and behind, usually depending on which team they supported. "Josh Jenkins thought it hit the post." Ok cool. The crowd went mental, every other Crows player in the forward 50 celebrated, and the Port defenders that watched it sail through all looked resigned to it being a goal. But if JJ thought it hit the post then I guess that makes it fact?
I still hope he never umpires again though. This one alone is a big enough * up to be a career ender.
Old mate's wearing Danger's old Crows jumper with the #3 taped over I'm sure they could afford a Crows jumper but points for resourcefulness.Didn't see that as a shot at us, Advertiser has to sensationalise it for some reason though.....
Definitely hit the post. The bloke obviously isn't cut out for goal umpiring. There's no shame in that. He needs to find something he's good at. Get someone in who doesn't make mistakes. The bloke is hopeless and cost us finals. What was wrong with his call on the Jenkins goal though? Called a goal but reviewed. That's all you can ask for.
