What compensation will we receive from the AFL?

I think the crows did the right thing by not going over board with the protest. Everyone was going berserk at the AFL anyway. If we whinged, complained and protested as much as our fans would have liked, we would have not only achieved nothing other than what we got, but we would have come across as whingers.

Humans make mistakes, the point was made as it stood that the AFL failed in its established processes. It would have been completely unfair to smash a goal umpire for a single mistake when players make mistakes all the time and so do field umpires. Most of which can cost games.

We got our point across and were able to be the bigger entity.
The way I see it is that we should be playing finals but aren't. I don't blame the incompetent umpire. I blame the AFL for not having a system in place where the arc communicated to the umpire that the decision was wrong and to award the crows the goal. Then the time should have been wound back and a centre bounce should have taken place. This will be the system next year but it shouldn't need a travesty for it to take place.

Would have been nice if the AFL had not stripped us of 2 years worth of draft picks for Tippett. Would have been nice if they had not suspended our senior assistant coach for a season for Melbourne tanking. Would have been nice if the AFL had thought about us when they gifted Noah Anderson to their pet project etc etc etc. Why were they never the bigger entity and playd nice with us?

So why should we be nice to them and be the 'bigger entity' when they are NEVER EVER nice to us when they could have been the 'bigger entity'

I hope Olsen extracts every ounce of value from them behind closed doors, now it's official it cost us finals.

With the right technology any mistakes will be picked up very quickly and most likely mistakes won't even be made in the first place.

So why can’t there be super hd cameras fixed on the goals, that can then be zoomed in without losing quality. Surely something is available, f1 you get super slowmos in 4k

They have the money and the technology is available. They just tried to do it on the cheap and as a gimmick. Its made them look stupid and they've been found out.

Do the AFL want to have a competition that is fair or one which they can manipulate...

There was a system in place, the incompetent umpire chose not to use it.

The goal umpire clearly thought he saw the ball hit the post. Which turned into a guess but he heard noises and the post move and put two and two together. The back up process which was there relied on the swans players not returning the ball into play so they could ask for a review. That was the mistake and failure of process.

The central ump should have told the swans player to put the ball down. The central umpires most likely knew it was a goal and choose to allow a mistake. I bet if the mistake was penalising the swans they would have intervened. The AFL wanted the swans in the finals and the umpires possibly thought they would be rewarded with a big final if they helped the AFL achieve their objective. The mistake the central umpires made is that they went way too far in favouring one side. Doing nothing about a blatant mistake is being complicit which is what the field umpires did. That's why we must have the ARC directing field umpires and goal umpires. A mistake like this must never be allowed to repeat itself.

If he thought that hit the post, he is incompetent. Massive gap.

If he had any doubt he should have asked for a review.

He didn't. Even with 45,000 people in the crowd cheering and our players celebrating, he arrogantly thought he was right.

That massive reaction in itself is a trigger for some doubt.

The system was there to help him. He chose not to use it.

Let's not pretend he had no support.

I will say though, one change that is required is that there needs to be a way to instigate a review from a point regardless of the ball being kicked in quickly.

Just make the players wait for the goal umpires to wave their flags before a kick in, like they use to always do until the AFL changed the rules to speed the game up. In those few seconds, the person upstairs on the video can check and request more time if in doubt.

The umpire had already waved the flags?

May as well get rid of goal umpires.

Get the right tech and there is no need for them. I would also like to see a change to the rules where any ball passing through the goals regardless whether it hits the post on the way through is a goal. If it hits the post and goes back in the field of play it's play on. Would make the game more interesting.
