Wow.

That main board thread is abhorrent. To be blunt, the 2 GWS supporters are flogs of the highest order. Very little they say has any substance or truth and they are so fixated in their views I am concerned that they may have a delusional disorder.

Here is my take on the situation for anyone who cares, the thread has degenerated into mud slinging with a heavy reliance on unsubstantiated rumors.

Not sure how this is GWS or Fremantles fault. seems like GWS didn't want to trade him and the Fremantle would only trade for him on their terms.

GWS appear to not want to trade him as he is a required player (best 22 or close to) and backed their culture in to change his mind.

Fremantle clearly wanted him but not at the expense of their current list management strategy so we're only interested in using draft picks to secure him. Bennell was the clear priority.

I am probably a little different than most because I believe Fremantle have already drafted their Pav replacement (Apeness), he has just been hit by injuries. Maybe that was Fremantles point of view too.

I think that it was McCarthy and his management who approached Fremantle to get a trade done, not Fremantle who approached McCarthy. Of course their response would be something along the lines of "would love to have you..... If we can facilitate a trade. Before we start, we are thinking you are worth around $X. Is that suitable? Ok, we'll contact GWS".

GWS say no, not interested. Fremantle have no where to move due to their lack of trade currency (no top 10 picks, Bennell coming in, no players wanting to leave).

The people that have acted poorly in this are not GWS or Fremantle but Cam McCarthy and Colin Young.

Colin Young seems to have this attitude of "Whatever it takes" for his clients. This may seem like a good idea for them, but he has no problem burning bridges to get them and him his paycheck.

He has made it very difficult for a young guy to return to his workplace where he has a contract. His all or nothing approach has done so much harm I question his ability to actually do right by his young clients.

And Cam should have accepted the GWS decision months ago, apologised, put his head down and torn up the track.

Unfortunately it is now just a mess and Colin Young won't be the knee to suffer but Cam McCarthy and GWS.

His trade value has declined sharply. The value of his potential contract may also be adjusted due to his circumstances. Their are questions about his willingness to train. The rumours of 2 first round picks was pretty reasonable, but it was declined.
In all seriousness I disagree that our trade offer was reasonable.

I am one of the few who thinks our trade offer was a decent bit under what GWS should accept. My view is that I can't see how a player who kicks 35 goals in his second year of senior football wouldn't have more trade value that someone like Tom Boyd who had only proven he could play well against kids. When you consider how there are so few good key position forwards in every draft I think GWS was right to want more than what we offered. In the first twelve games of 2015 McCarthy proved he could play well against men. His trade value long term was that he should build on a 35 goal season through natural progression providing he got a good run with injury.

There is big difference between talking about a trade and completing a trade. IMO to turn the McCarthy potential trade into a completed trade we needed to offer more than his pure football value as a player. The reason I think this is due to the severe lack of key position players in most drafts and also his status as being uncontracted. I don't even remotely get any hate towards GWS for not accepting a trade that was about, rather than above his market value.

I get what your saying, but even Jack Anthony kicked 50 goals in an afl season and he wasn't that old when he came to us.....glad we didn't give up too much for him based on 1 breakout season.

For about the hundredth time McCarthy isn't a 'key' forward, he's nothing like players of the Boyd type.
For the hundredths time he actually played his best football in early 2015 as the tallest player closest to goal with cameron playing a roaming role. He lead from the goal square and marked against key position players as he was the second tallest forward. He actually played a lot better as the second tall than he did as the third or fourth tall when Patton returned. He is every bit a genuine key position prospect if you payed even the slightest of slightest bit of attention to the games he played in 2015. Pav and boyd aren't unlike. That doesn't mean Pav (same height as McCarthy) isn't a key position tall.

Anthony and Black are the two exceptions to the rule, but watching McCarthy he seems to have more physical tools than those two players IMO.

Main board has become a like whore paradise for trolls.

Haven't been there in ages. Waste of time.

I'm learning that the hard way. Never assume that those cretins are capable of a sensible discussion. Allthey can do is pick stuff out of context and ignore 99% of the meat of any argument. Well I guess when you have nothing to argue with, you make a mountain out of a molehill

If you think about it as if you were at a your job.
You aren't enjoying yourself at work for whatever reason, so you want to leave. Sometimes you get a new job straight away (traded) and sometimes you go and sit on the dole for a while till you find a job you want.

Cam probably likes his job and most or the people he works with etc. but felt screwed over by them by not trading him that he is now just happy to go on the dole or work part-time (WAFL)

It's quite remarkable that GWS have managed to produce as many terrible posters as they have considering how small their supporter base is on here.

If that's indicative of what Western Sydney is like I'm glad I've never ventured out of the nicer parts of the city.

It isn't that much of a stretch of the imagination that those who enjoy big noting themselves in web confrontations would choose to "support" the new team so they can relatively more of a big deal in the smaller pond.

Just to reiterate, Freo fans who can't resist getting into shitfights with the trolls (of which there are indeed many) on the main board should consider confining themselves to this thread where you can post more heated dialogue without fear of reprisal. If you really feel the compulsion to discuss it further then PM me and I can expound more; but from here on I'll consider posts about the main board/specific posters or mods to be off-topic and remove them.

Will Mccarthy turn out to be a Jack Anthony ?

Too much wasted time is spent worrying about McCarthy and taking away time from your holiday enjoyment.
Not really, now at hometown, Also I enjoy most of the poster here. Will said hi to you next time when I back from holiday as long as you promise not to bite or swallow me at once. You had a good weekend I go for another round of food ( sorry diet put on hold)

I thought Sherrif's response was quite good as I would consider McCarthy to have more weapons than big Jack and therefore his potential ceiling is higher.....but we all know that potential is just that without hard work and unfortunately work rate for McCarthy is now in question thanks to GWS and their latest media release!

I hope McCarthy comes through from whatever ails him but part of me likes that it has come to this. The AFL & GWS obviously did not heed the request of Cam and his agent to seek a trade. I've no doubt the AFL were in GWS' ear not to let Cam go as a sign of solidarity. A club needs to know when to cut ties and this has backfired on them in a major way.
McCarthy will pick himself up, be happier at home and get back on the horse. I hope that is a purple horse.

I dared to venture into the main board to have a read, and joizus...

The logic of pretty much every poster in that thread is atrocious.

I liken Freo being blamed for this entire scenario occurring to Sarah Palin blaming Obama for her son being a wife beater and her daughter being a whore. It's convenient to your agenda, but at the end of the day all it really does is make you look like an arse to every other regular Joe who's not a complete moron.

I just don't understand when they harp on about "Fremantle going after a contracted player" and how disgraceful our club is.

1) Didn't his manager approach the club?
2) Ryan Griffen was in contract when they went after him..... Kettle meet Pot

I think I'll steer clear of the main board while these fixated delusions remain.
