I'm at the point where I don't even care if he goes to Freo. It's obviously more than homesickness so I just hope he gets everything sorted and gets healthy again. (Obv don't want him going to west coast though)
I'm amazed how many people are blaming this on Freo - when we have nothing to do with it at all. The statements coming out of GWS are weird and almost hurtful. And given how hard everything was pushed during trade period - how could they not have seen something like this coming. Sounds like it's been a few days coming too. They have a video up on their website from team photo day and it looks like Cam's not in it.

Yep Mitch Clark has twice gotten to where he wanted and it didn't help the underlying issue, the poor kid is suffering and changing jobs/locations won't magically fix it.
I doubt GWS thought it was this bad, no way would they have turned down 2 1st rounders or whatever it was if they thought he wouldn't rock up.
When it comes down to it, he is just a kid and some kids can't handle the pressure of AFL, no matter how talented he is. Maybe a period at home surrounded by family and friends will give him some perspective and space to decide what he wants to do with his life. He might decide to walk away from football who knows.....

His trade value has declined sharply. The value of his potential contract may also be adjusted due to his circumstances. Their are questions about his willingness to train. The rumours of 2 first round picks was pretty reasonable, but it was declined.
For what it is worth we offered more than two late first round picks for McCarthy. Lloyd was interviewed after the draft and he said what we offered to GWS was the equivalent in academy points of pick 3 to 4 for McCarthy, but no listed player.. In the lead up to trade week it was reported that our first pick and a future pick was actually a top five pick in trade currency for an academy player bid. For us to offer more than the two first round picks after downgrading the 2015 first pick with the Bennell trade we would have to offered something like our first three picks in 2015 and a future first rounder. What GWS would have received if they had agreed to the trade would have been the ability to land Hopper while keeping their initial first pick. GWS would also have the currency of either our second or third pick to use on other academy players. Keeping their first pick and change in effect is greater than was most on the main boards seem to think in terms of trade currency offered.
That said I don't get the hate on our board for GWS refusing the bid. Very few talented young key position players get traded with two years of their contract to run. Also, Waterhouse, Jeff White and even Pav are players who in our history are rumoured to have asked for a trade during a contract and told they wouldn't be traded.

He's a great prospect but he wasn't worth much more than what we offered (next years first and 22 this year), I'd say he would be worth about pick 7-9 by itself. The main board cretins are saying we should give Weller plus the two picks - yet the next time here is a Ross Lyon main board thread im sure they'll say he doesn't rate any of our young kids.

Our club is well run now, it's not a case of finding a prospective recruit than selling the farm to get him like we did for a road, Tarrant, Josh Carr & Headland.

Really can't see how so many people are putting the blame on Freo. Sure it's not a great situation for GWS, they can't blame Freo. It's like you guys caused the mental illness somehow and are now trying to cash in on it.
