I agree that the Allies should have kept rolling into the Soviet Union and dealt with them in 1945.

Many on the allies side actually recommended it and considered them the real enemy.

Would have set communism (which is the opposite side of the same coin to fascism imo) back a very very long time.

Also , Russia invaded the Northern parts of Poland as war broke out.
The Poles at first thought they were there to help fight the Germans, they were in for a shock !

What I am is equal parts repulsed and fascinated that an obvious conman and buffoon has managed to build a cult like devotion amongst a large swath of the populace and bullshit his way into the presidency not once but twice. That he managed to incite an insurrection as well as commit numerous other crimes in between without it having any tangible effect is quite an incredible story and one that gives me a lot of joy pointing out the absurdity of it all to the people who've fallen into it.

As for who Id prefer. Given I have no skin in the game other than when I visit the US. Or when he inevitably turns his gaze towards extorting us. Id say Literally anyone who isn't a Trump like demagogue.

Republican. Democrat. I don't care because when it comes to US style politics and the effect that teh Supreme Courts Citizens United V FEC decision had. A decision that has allowed an individual to tip in $250 million+ has had then all I see is a system that is corrupt to its core. One that was bound to throw up a president as venal as Trump.

That sounds easy enough. Until you consider the wider context of events.

By 1945 the Allies were exhausted. You have to remember that Britain was dead broke after it had been in the fight for 7 long years the first 4 of those it and its dominions carried the bulk of the fight to Germany across two continents alone. It's why although the Allies could've reached Berlin first they halted at the Elbe and left the final bloody decapitation of the 3rd Reich in Berlin to the Soviets. By this time they were also beginning to turn their attention towards what was shaping up as a very costly invasion of Japan and the transfer of troops between the two conflict zones.

By that stage the only advantage that the allies had in Europe was at sea, with strategic bombing of Russia and the then unknown threat of the atomic bomb. Something that Stalin knew all about. On the ground the Russians had a numeric advantage and had shown and continues to show a willingness to take huge levels of casualties to achieve their tactical and strategic goals.

Something that the Allies were just not willing to do as they wanted to get the war in this theatre off war over with. It made more sense for all sides to take a breath, allow a division of Europe (sorry Europe) rebuild and plan for WWIII.

Its not out off the realms of possibility that if in an alternate universes the Allies and the Soviets immediately went to war something that was a Nazi wet dream in its dying days. Then they would've been about to take Europe in its entirety.

Only if they continued the war and somehow defeated the Soviets. And unless they planned on using the few Nukes that they had inside of Europe itself then it wasn't very likely.

Like I said each to their own. But knowing there's a lot of people like you following and reading people who believe in things like satanic cabals and that a range of famous people are acting as a range of other famous people I wasn't at all surprised that a person like Trump would win.
