The Pies/Bombers ANZAC day game is just a H&A game between two teams I Hate

Anzac game is Anzac game.
A chance for fans of all clubs to go to the G and celebrate the diggers who fought for our country.

I went to the prematch last year ,not the game and the atmosphere is incredible for the Anzac march.

Puts a lump in the throat.

Anyway the game is played on Richmond soil.

Proud Richmond supporter.:hearts:

Every single final is a bigger match then a home and away match that has become a big event, but still not close to finals matches.
To suggest otherwise is complete and utter stupidity.
Define bigger, Anzac Day out rates and out draws some finals.

It's much bigger than your average HaA game for fans of both clubs, I hate losing to Essendon fullstop, but losing on Anzac Day is like a kick in the guts.

There are THREE games this year, including two on free to air yet it's still about Essendon and Collingwood?

I think it's more about the clubs playing. If it was Geelong and Hawthorn, less people would be complaining.

If it's just a home and away game, then treat it as such. Will be waiting for a thread about Fremantle...
If it was between geelong and hawthorn everybody would be complaining about being slugged a booking fee.

Strip it off them, they do not deserve it, the ANZAC medal is a joke when 16 other clubs can never win it. Top 2 Victorian teams from the previous year to play at the MCG, also a 2nd game with the top 2 non-Victorian teams in the evening.

TV ratings, crowd attendance and overall attention given to the match suggest otherwise.

If it's just an irrelevant H&A game then neutrals wouldn't be so desperate to go and opposition clubs wouldn't be so desperate to take it away from us.

I think you're being slightly disingenuous.

It is one of the few holidays during the football season that people don't traditionally do other things and are out and about in the city early on with the rest of the day free. It is a not the mysticism that attracts clubs, more the massive sponsorship, prime TV, non competing timeslot & huge neutral audience to capture that attracts them.

CBF reading whole thread but as a neutral I look forward to it every year. Seems to be one of those matches where the ladder positions are insignificant and certain players seem to lift. I was lucky enough to go to one courtesy of a client, and the atmosphere was unbelievable. (Have also been to a GF). It didn't hurt that they were the best seats I've ever been in at the 'G by far.....

Love the day and wear my grandfathers medals to the dawn service every year. Couldn't care less about the two vile teams playing at the G. The footy on ANZAC day doesn't interest me.

In Melbourne, What do you expect?

Higher rating doesn't make it a bigger game. Finals are of much more importance and as such a bigger game.
Regardless I'm not interested in getting in a slanging match on this when it's been done to death.

Obviously a final is more important, but you said "bigger", I asked you define "bigger".

Anzac day was big when Richmond played as well.
Anyway good luck to the two teams playing on our ground Friday.;)

I bought an Anzac day badge and will wear it with pride.

P.S.Distributor The only Anzac Game I went to between the Pies and Bombers attracted only around 60k.

Both teams were struggling but still Anzac Game with the whole day to itself.

Just out of interest, what makes it your ground exactly?

Been our home ground for 49 years and the ground the G was built on originally was called Richmond Paddock!

And it's been Melbourne's home ground for 150 years!

You talk like Richmond are the biggest club in the competition. Instead of worrying about crowds worry about Richmond consistently winning games.

All jokes aside…bang on.

The worst part of the whole thing.
The idea that players should receive a medal for showing the spirit of the ANZAC's and enjoy the crowd's adulation is ridiculous. Half of the men and women in Gallipoli jumped off the boat and were shot and killed in minutes. One does not correlate to the other, the players should enter and leave the field united in arms. All the gesticulating is stupid. I'll be at work this year anyway.

Not the thread for it, but you're all playing on our ground ;)
