We have Martin and Archie as our ruck options and really both dont offer a lot up forward. So having 1 play as a main ruck with just a pinch hit option i think is fine. At some point, surely 1 of our KPF will be able to fill in 5 min here and there well enough to make it work. Whether that is Walker, Hipwood, Close or even Ballenden in a few years.

It was good to see Archie kept in the team and get a bit of a chance up forward. He has some qualities that will make defenders nervous, especially if he gets a few minutes up forward with the 2 KPF still on the field as well. He should be getting a lesser defender, and his jump and athletic ability might draw some free kicks if he gets a one v one deep. He is still very raw, but there is some forward potential for the future.

Im pretty happy with our KPF stocks. Ive always liked Close up forward, i just like the way he plays and have always thought he would be a good 2nd KPF playing alongside and complementing a more natural star type KPF. But with Schache and Hipwood looking like 2 dominate forwards over the next 10 years, we have Close and Walker essentially fighting for the same spot as that competitive KPF. And we havent even mentioned Freeman or what Ballenden brings in a few years. Plenty of depth there.

Im not sure if i see any of them playing as a defender though, which is really what we need. Will be interesting though, if we do have a coaching change to see what a fresh set of eyes might try.

i stayed around after the game and noticed that while the players were milling around waiting for all the boys to walk off together lambo and rocky were very affectionate, laughing, bum taps and hugs abounded. the rift is officially over:)

That is a massive positive.

Archies first goal. He ran toward the bench and was waived back to the forward position by runner #3 (charman?), ran back to the square and had the ball delivered to his chest.
Loved the whole team getting around him to celebrate.

Hey don't foget Angoose was often out the caressing the players after a game, looks can be deceiving.

Was a great sight to see. It was bordering on gay pr0n. But the love these boys show towards one another just puts whats said in the media to shame.

Last year we had 36 goals scored by key forwards and ruckman.

This year we're sitting at 61. Thats a massive improvement given how we've been trounced this year and hopefully a sign of things to come.

We also passed last year's points scored total part way through the second quarter on the weekend. It's just a shame about the almost 300 more points leaked over last year.

and you have to go and ruin it don't you. This is the positives thread! Hopefully some judicious mod comes along and removes your blasphemy

36 in 23 rounds.

Wow.

It's so important that a few of our young forwards have shown good signs. I'm most glad because it should take the weight of the world off Schache's shoulders. At the beginning of the year he was unambiguously required to be a messiah for us. Now, despite an impressive first season, he's not even our most widely discussed first year forward.

An aside on Close, where he may not have the pedigree or football nous of our other prospects, he shows the right attitude to go well as a forward line presence. We shouldn't undervalue that.
