The premiership window?

Considering our number #1 draft pick 2003 a midfielder just won the brownlow medal, we picked #3 the following year, a midfeilder again and our 2008 Best and Fairest is a midfeilder we got about 2001 or 2002 at beyond #50 and the guy who ran 4th in our B&F was a Rookie listed player we promoted in 2003

I think we should say we are well and truly in our premiership window.

You might be right about some supporters being scarred by losing through the years. I am certainly conservative when it comes to our teams success. But people should never confuse negativity with realism. A lot of posters on here give realistic opinions on our team. IMO this is not a bad thing at all. It would be boring if we all thought exactly the same and it was a rose coloured glasses board. The thing to remember is that we all want exactly the same thing, a premiership and success.

The last thing I want is for this to degenerate into a tit for tat posting and I know from your posts that you are not a team basher. But I do want to point out that people should never confuse optimism with realism. A lot of posters on here give realistic opinions on our team. IMO this is a very good thing. It would be boring if we all thought exactly the same and it was a negative nancy board. I know we all want exactly the same thing, a premiership and success. :thumbsu:

I just hope and pray our players don't suffer from the same insecurity and lack of confidence as a lot of our "realistic" posters on here. I have been following the team closely since the late 60's and I have never felt more buoyant heading into a season than I do this year. If we are not well and truly in a premiership window now then I fear it will never happen. Posters who say wait until so and so matures are kidding themselves. There are no guarantees any of our young kids will develop and no guarantees that if they do they won't end up in Queensland or West Sydney. If anyone in the club has the same mindset we are stuffed.

dear Before I die,

I also hope no one in the club is focusing on our deficiencies other then the coaches who must find ways to over come them.

Although, I can see deficiencies particularly in our forward line, I feel very optimistic - bullish even.

My confidence is based on the overall health and direction of the squad. The recruiting during the Wallace era left our squad so bereft of height that in 2003 Johnston and n.brown had to become our main forwards. Looking at the kids coming through the legacy of this problem appears to be 12 months away from being totally erased from the club.

The Eade era has been very positive for this club and for the first time I see a list growing in strength year on year. And whilst, I would love to see a premiership this and every year the reality is in any given year even a list as strong as geelong's can lose. But if club keeps improving, year on year, and consistently plays finals then the chance will present itself and the odds improve.

Brazil what you forget when you say in a few years time, Grant, Roughead etc. will be at their peak and the best window is then, yes agreed they will peak but window will be no better.

You and most posted of these types of threads (which I also hate) forget is that a few players will be gone and a few more deteriorate eg:

Johsnon, Acker gone Eagle yet no loss anyway
Hudson, Welsh - Worst
Hahn, Murphy - wrong side of 28, 29

Repeated every year is a window, many sides have done it, baby bomber of 1993 and many others over the years. Adelaide from 4 and 5 to win premiership granted different finals system.
