Took a RAV4 for a test drive, the cabin noise was really noticeable. Decided to save 55k and let my wife keep her 2016 Corolla Hatch.
I actually drive a 2012 v6 Aurion, easily the best car I have ever had.
Lexus engine, got some real guts when country driving.

I meant even if it was a project rusting away in the shed. It's insane what old muscle cars are going for. People are spending $50k on a rusty shell. I had so many cars that I wished I'd stuffed in sheds.
I had torana that I drove around while doing the HQ up the torana would be worth 60 K now LOL

I had a red LH with a 253 in it and straight cut gears
Black mint interior and dash too

Non orig motor
Sold it for 1400 lol

But that's what they were worth back then

Yeah man
They never came off the floor like it they went to dealers and got the treatment so never had a badged build number on them
But after a bit of research
i contacted hdt and sent photos and numbers and proved it was all orig and they said yup u have one and gave me the build number and the paperwork which cost 300$

It wasnt even a 308
Was a 253 auto ffs but was still a verified one

(I sold it under double digits to a local guy
I beleive its up in qld now with a guy who has a few)

A few years later brock died and then another decade later prices went ballistic on all muscle

Hindsight huh

When I was younger I went and looked at their old greek guy's XB GT hardtop. He'd had it up on blocks in the shed under cover since the 80s. 30,000 miles on the clock from new and still looked new. I passed on it because it was auto and brown exterior and brown interior. I saw it had shown up in England in a collection and the guy was trying to sell it back here for some obscene amount. Bought an XB GS ute instead that had a 351 top-loader 9inch set up. It was a frightening car. Had a few nice valiant hardtops and chargers too.

Im selling my xb atm
I havent advertised it but im just about ready to tell a few locals who we see driving around in old achool stuff

Theres a park up meet at a local winery once a month 5 mins from me so ll pay a visit and give them a flyer ive made up about it

Nothing flash
Not v8, no options but minimal rust compared to whats out there
Not asking big money either so it should sell

Here we go

Garbage , they are better in a head on than anything you drove in the 90s.
4 stars. ANCAP.
Daughter had one for her first car, no problem. Not a limo but i'm thinking you didn't pay much for your hire car.
Bought it for $2500 and sold it for the same money 4 years later.

Back in the old days they used to hire out Moke's at the GC.
Then there were Suzuki 4wd's. Foot flat to the floor and they just wind up to 110 km/h.

Wouldn’t let anyone I love drive something like that. No chance in a smash.

Lucky I don’t love many 😎

Seeing as i drove a 65 falcon 2 door in the 90s that never came out with seatbelts so i never had to fit/wear them (obviously the law has changed now) so absolutely everything on the road was better in a head on than that

Getz would be great in a T bone...not

Driving home from Phillip island I once rolled a HQ 253 Monaro four times end on end. Two passengers and I walked away without a scratch.

Car was folded up like an accordion. That car probably wouldn't be a single ANCAP star rated. Sometimes you get lucky.

You'd get wolf-whistles in a Rav 4 up there.

We had one, was also white, can confirm there were whistles but pretty sure it was the pol as man it was a tiny 4wd I legit thought I was going to break something just by using the pedals. Did take a second to check if that was ours on raffle though since we did trade it back to the dealer obviously.

Also did have to double take this car talks as the above and;

As I work for SBD, our third project car where we rebuild one was

This mustang, which yes, my arse has graced those seats and yes, we did ding it at the building and have to gaffa tape that trim one time since whoops mounted curb to get on grass sssshhh, but if you get around and see a spanner decal on this bad boy in South Aus, feel free to whistle at it and have a peel at that right hand decal from the front wheel.

And just for lols

That Camaro, had one of Australias first shipped V12 in it that landed. We pushed that bastard, even flew in a random influencer chick, and there I was, during those meeting all "I miss that kombi van". Imagine having enough space for cooler + storage + the industrial sort of finish where you could legit put plumbing in for a meals on wheels if so desired, van was a beast in finish and I'm on youtube in that reveal vid. Anywho, no one really liked that Camaro and we so jumped the shark, but this is me stating I had a hand in all the above and dinged one of them to prove that once again, I lean team red.

As evidenced by team 18 sponsorship, and the fact I drive an '07 Jazz that's been rear ended 3x with none being my fault. You want a chick magnet, get a Jazz, they can't help just trying to backdoor you and you just have to sit there and welcome it.

Hope the backdoor still works ok after all that .

Yeah I was on a dirt road in a Valiant hardtop and left the road and hit a gumtree about a meter off the ground and we all walked away. My cousin was in the back and his lap belt ripped out of the floor and he ended up between the front seats but fine. We even drove it back to Melbourne. Just had to keep stopping to fill the radiator every 40 kms or so and the wheels didn't quite track like they were meant to.

Same, ordered a Corrolla at a cheap car hire, turned up and got a bright yellow Getz. It was a frightening experience on a freeway.

The worst car I got at a hire was a Suzuki micro car in Noosa. It was an auto and going up a hill with aircon on to de-mist the windows would make it feel like it was in danger of stopping. It was going at about 10kmph by the time we hit the top of the hill.

Got a shit Renault in france too, ordered a Mondeo and got a French micro car. It looked like a Mr Bean car and your luggage had to sit on the kids laps. The French gave zero shits and said that was all they had left and that was one of the big companies. I think it was Hertz.

Kind of ignorant.
I don't think you realize the amount of engineering that goes into airbag protection and crumple zones in modern vehicles.
( and i'd class the Getz as one ).
By no means the safest on the road they are way better than the older generations of small cars , Ford Fiesta's and the like.

Just going by the stars can be misleading too.
Sometimes the difference between 3 and 4 stars can be a sensor in the passenger seat that the seatbelt is on.

Pretty sure the oldest of the Torana's ( Opel Hotrods ) were nothing safe in an accident. And before Holden decided it would be good if their cars went round corners (RTS), they were horrid accidents waiting to happen.
