Westcoasts issues are cultural, a bit like Carlton. Richmond's is personel

Agreed, but our list is still a bit thin. Way too many comfortable players the last 2-3 years. I'd happily let Tim Kelly walk at the end of the year and if Oscar Allen isn't all in then kthxbye. It's unfortunate we had so many injuries that a lot of the itme there were only 1 or 2 listed players in the WAFL. Made Simpson's job impossible but also shielded him from making hard decisions.

I hope Harley firsts extracts the digit and then stays. We need a player that wants to fight Dayne Zorko and flip the bird to the crowd. But we also need him to get a kick.

I think Kelly has other issues. Allen and Reid, I think are product of the environment, and are not the issue. West Coast need leaders at all levels

I disagree... West coast overall culture isn't bad. This west coast current rebuild is their 1st major one. This was never gonna be a plug and play short rebuild like 2000-01 and 2008-10.

They had an ageing squad in 2021 and thought they would play finals for 10 years straight.

They made finals from 2015-20. They also finished 9th in between that 6 year run in 2014 and 2021.

So from 2014-2021, eagles had no got 1 top 10 or top 5 pick.

LOL.

What should West Coast have done in 2021 then? Finished 9th, drafted Chesser, Hough, Bazzo and Jack Williams. De-listed 7 players and had 2 retirements.

So many hindsight heroes. This is the only "1st major WC rebuild" because the results have been so poor.

WC were absolute dogshit in the Ken Judge years and of the 2006 flag side a grand total of 7 players played a game before 2000. Literally no one was talking up WC's potential because we had a 22 year old Rowan Jones and a one game Chad Fletcher on the list.

Chick and Stenglein were traded in during years we made finals. With the exception of Judd (3) and Waters (11) every other player added from 2001 onward was available to every other team to select.

Similar tale for 2018. Hurn and LeCras were the only players who were on the list in 2006. The 2018 side is a list of players acquired mostly through unremarkable means. I must have missed all those times in 2013/14 when people had WC earmarked for greatness. Was it a plug and play rebuild to replace Cox, Glass, Embley, Priddis, Kerr etc?

What would a merged Richmond/West Coast 21-26 year old team look like? Not a lot of quality there.

Edit:

FB: Gibcus Blight Young
HB: Hough Miller Brown

FF: Lefau Allen Dewar
FOL: Ryan Dow Sonsie

IC: Edwards Petrucelle Williams Chesser
Didn’t realise that to win a flag you needed to have players that were only this age.

Yep it was

I am still shocked to this day your mob made finals in 2002. Yep eagles clinched 8th spot that year. Only won 2 away games and one of them was vs kangaroos in Canberra by a point.
