I'll word it in two ways because people hate the T word.

Tank from here and miss the 8 / Play the kids from here, but probably miss the 8.

Get a top-10 pick or very close to one.

Push J Henry to take North's big offer (assuming it gets us band 1 and hope they haven't paid their Kayo fees of late to see Henry play of late).

So that nets us another top-10 pick for a player I think has always been overrated (decent but far from a star).

Get more games into the future/younger guys... Humphries, Clohesy, Neale, Clark, Mullin, Conway, Knevitt etc (I'd think Humpa and Ted will get a game or two anyway... but get more than that into them).

P.S We may miss the 8 organically going our absolute hardest.

Tanking is for losers and is a sure fire way to keep your club at rock bottom for years.

Rebuild yes but you need to have experienced players around to set standards and for the youth to learn from.

Geelong will make the GF this year
Funny how these work isn't it?

Would've been outrageous in the pre-season to the outside masses, credible and maybe even a popular view 4 weeks ago...and now back to being outrageous again.

IMHO, our only chance is a 'Baby Bombers' esque run where the kids just click all together at once, while the older brigade squeeze the lemon one last time, mainly Hawkins, Cuthrie, & Dangerfield.

Here's hoping, but not expecting anything.

If he retires on Tuesday, can he then nominate for the mid-season draft to be held on Wednesday?
Maybe we will give him a heads up on selection a couple of days early then.

P.S. I actually think he will play this week… but the retiring and going into the MSD is much more interesting (not even sure if it’s possible to do via the rules).

You can't come back from that. Once you culturally accept losses as a part to winning you lose control of the narrative and you can't just switch it back on. If we miss the 8 organically it better be on the back of trying our level best to win every game.

Plus, we've put a ton of games into kids and we're sitting 5th after Rd 11. Maybe, just maybe, they're doing something right.

I put it two ways.

Option 1: Tank.
Option 2: Play kids... yeah def trying to win but still likely to lose (currently losing playing some kids... can only assume we'd lose if we added more kids into the mix)... Is that considered tanking because we know we are not playing our best team to win?

Tanking to me isn't exactly "trying to lose" because I don't think that's even possible to get players to do that... it's more "not doing everything to win right now".

Maybe I shouldn't use the T word if everyone thinks of it as just going out and trying to lose.

I agree we are getting some games into kids.. yes.

I wouldn't complain if we see Humphries or Clohesy in next week... even Hardie, who I actually think will debut.

OK but like, we are playing the kids. The only functional difference between what you're saying and what Scott is doing is handing games to maybe 2-3 who aren't ready.

If you send kids out there to play and there's no functional structure and we can't win then what are the kids learning? Just a bit of match practice where they bark touch it, get overwhelmed by pressure, turn it over, get smashed? Then what do you say to that kid as coach? Do you roast them for not doing what they can't do? Do you tell them that it's OK because we didn't exist you to win anyway? Both those outcomes are cultural poison.

We've already won too many games to get an elite pick. This isn't a "drop 1 game to get Harley Reid" situation. You could drop every game requiring a half effort and we'd gain a pick that wouldn't be much different to playing our level best every week.

Then the main thing for me is your attractiveness as a destination club. Our main issue is replacing 3 players: Danger, Cameron, Guthrie. That's a situation you can trade out of. But you can't trade if players don't want to come play for you.

I know everything looks bad at the moment. When you have a bad midfield everything looks like a problem everywhere, but in reality you only really have the one problem to solve.

Consider my alternative proposal. We make finals next two years, developing the kids we've got as much as possible. We trade out of this draft entirely for Bailey Smith then convince LDU to come as a free agent. I argue that would be a far and away more effective rebuild than anything we get from this draft. But it only works if we win games.

I think after the bye we'll hit our straps and make a run for the flag again.

It's a bit doom and gloom around here from a bunch of incredibly lucky supporters who aren't used to following a "regular" football team over the past 16~ years.

To play the kids, have injuries to prime movers and have other guns under injury/concussion clouds and still take it right up to our opponents is a good sign.

Give us the bye and some time to rest injured and we're right back in it.

Because I think he will be a star
I rate him, but the argument would be is he actually what we need vs O'Sullivan?

For instance, with O'Sullivan & SDK, we've already built the backline of our future spine if we develop them properly.

It's one of the most integral areas of the ground, and we've already (hopefully) got it set.

With Caddy, Neale, & Henry up the other end, that's 3 guys who could all be brilliant options as a second or third tall...but I'm not sure if any of them are good enough/big enough to be the leading man in a premiership side.

We'd still be making inroads for the future up there if we took him, but we'd still be be lacking the piece we require for mine.

Agree with this. Caddy will be a great role player as second/third string up forward.

Strong defence is the backbone of a premiership side these days more than ever. O'Sullivan helps with that.
