I hope so as well, nothing worse than sitting behind a little kid who waves a flag non stop during the whole game whilst nearly taking your eye out with it.

Cheersquads back in the day (70's and 80's) used to be massive and consist of a lot of colour and contain heaps of flags and those big pom pom things (sorry, no idea what they call those things they shake over the fence in the front rows).

I still remember the cheer squads would occasionally sit in the upper deck of the great southern stand of the MCG. They were such a unique and great spectacle of going to the footy when younger.

I also remember the really big flags that some would have. You see them at telecasts of the NRL. Anyway, I used to see these three or four guys in their 20's or so, mid 80's, that had these massive over-sized and original Fitzroy flags. I always wondered what happened to these fellas.

No probs with cheer squads having flags, banners, pom poms, whatever the hell they like. Go hard.

However, I do object to long sticks being waved at stupid times and being controlled by either kids not being properly supervised by their parents or worse still, adults with NFI and no consideration for anyone else.

I used to use a flag. But as I got older I felt like a tosser, so I've put it away for good, leave the flags to the kids I say. Just tell the parents to keep em' in check.

Nah I have no problem telling Kids to stop being annoying. You just be nice about it. Kids kicking your chair, tell the Kid to stop. Kid doesn't stop tell the parents and if they don't do it, tell them to learn to discipline their damn kids! Or if it's a non-filled game, go behind the kids chair and start kicking it :D

The kids still have plenty of flags at the Eagles games. As a matter of fact, so do the oldies. The oldies (50+) that are made keen seem to love the flags. Obviously some just like to chill and have a champagne, but many really get into it.

Messages on Hold signs don't count as flags. ;).

They were f-ing everywhere at AAMI Stadium for the Elim Final.

Every year there's heaps at Crows games, particularly big games like finals or showdowns.
Always a good sight just after the anthem is played and the crowd roars, the stadium is full of Crows colours waving in the air.
Also, the fact that the club gave away a heap of flags in round 1 for free at the gates this year (10,000 I believe) definately helped.

Sure the kids are annoying with their errant flags, but who cares, its football. Hopefully they'll be the next generation of supporters who are complaining about annoying kids with flags, while their kids are poking someone's eye out. :thumbsu:

Flags and banners etc are a great part of following any sport and really add to the spectacle of the game. Especially when they are not store bought. That someone puts time and effort to display their passion in a public arena like that is a really special part of sport and it is a shame that you see less and less of it.

I have three flags that I have hand made that I like to hang over the fence where possible or just display when we score a goal etc. Do get heckled a bit as a result from cynical fans and security however.
