Las Vegas Bears 18.19 (127) defeated Coney Island Warriors 12.10 (82)

brahj opened the scoring for the Bears, but the Warriors dominated the first half, and led by 26 points in the shadows of half-time. A last second goal to kane249 reduced the deficit to 20, and the Bears took that momentum forward in the second half as Gee Dub, who shifted to full-forward, took control of their forward line to lead his team to a 13 point advantage at ¾ time. And they motored away with the game in the final term, booting 7 goals to the Warriors 2 and winning by 45 points. kane249 on a wing had 35 disposals for the Bears; Gee Dub booted 5.7 and Magruder had 27 touches, while the Warriors were best served by Frankston Rover and RedVest4

Sin City Swamprats 10.8 (68) defeated Mount Buller Demons 10.7 (67)

The Swamprats got a bright start, leading at the first break by 25 points as ShaunDuggan made a brilliant start, and they moved out to a 33 point margin during the second term. But the Demons would not fold, as Azarole caught fire to lead them to a surprise ¾ time lead. In a classic final term, miggsgoaled twice, and scores were levelled by a behind with only seconds to play, but Headless turned the ball over, and Gray Day shanked a hurried shot, to leave the Swamprats winners by a single point. In a low-stat game, RU_ was the only player to notch 20 touches, while Azarole booted 4

Roys FFC 21.17 (143) defeated East Side Hawks 10.11 (71)

The Roys got the fast start, leading by 20 points after 7 minutes, and despite the Hawks briefly showing some fight through GN80, the Roys were always in control. They won every quarter, and were particularly savage in a 12 goal second half to run out easy 72 point winners. The Roys’ onball division of Willo_ fitzroybowiedog and A Bit High were dominant, whilst Fred dobbed 6 goals. It was harder to find a Hawk winner, though Wacky Tiger competed well in the ruck.

Baghdad Bombers 19.19 (133) defeated Dragons FFC 12.7 (79)

It was the iDon and Itsmyshow show from the beginning, as the Bombers bolted to an early 5 goal lead, and that margin was maintained until half-time. But a dominant third term put this result beyond doubt, and the eventual 54 point win was actually flattering to the Dragons as the Bombers played razzamatazz Qooty. iDon with 24 disposals and 4 goals, and Hoooops with 20 touches and 10 tackles were brilliant for the Bombers.

Fighting Furies 14.11 (95) defeated Geelong Wolves 9.7 (61)

With the first 2 goals, the Geelong Wolves were eyeing an upset, and possible finals revival, but this dream was quickly snuffed out by the ruthless Furies, who drew away to a 25 point halftime lead and inexorably poured on the pressure thereafter to win comfortably by 34 points. Helen Wheels dominated her wing with 29 disposals, and Tarkyn_24 sank 5 goals, while @BB8 booted more than half of the Wolves’ score.

Gold City Royals 17.13 (115) defeated West Coast Wonders 12.8 (80)

In a tight opening, ShanDog booted the Royals to a narrow quarter-time lead, and doubled his tally in the second as the Royals flexed their muscle and drew away. The Wonders, through the industrious work of _MKMatty and LicoriceAllsorts , fought back, but were overwhelmed in the last as ShanDog had a day out with 7 goals, leading the Royals to a 35 point victory. Round 14

The round 13 results had created a schism in the SFA ladder, as the top 4 clubs –the Royals, Roys, Bears and Swamprats – opened up a 4 point advantage over the Warriors and Demons, and more importantly with 4 games to go, they established a 3 game buffer from the eighth-placed Bombers. Competition was tight for the seventh and eighth spots, as the Bombers, Furies, Wonders and Dragons sought to claim one of the 2 available berths, while the Wolves and Hawks seemed consigned to beating each other with the spoon. With the top six playing each other in Round 14, and the bottom six also battling amongst themselves, the finals picture was becoming clearer.

Round 14 Fixtures

Geelong Wolves vs West Coast Wonders at The Lair
Dragons FFC vs Fighting Furies at Dragon Island
East Side Hawks vs Baghdad Bombers at Waverley Park
Mount Buller Demons vs Roys FFC at Snow Dome
Las Vegas Bears vs Sin City Swamprats at The Stadium In The Sky (MOTR)

Coney Island Warriors 15.9 (99) defeated Gold City Royals 13.7 (85)

The ladder-leading Royals jumped the Warriors early, kicking accurately to hold a slender advantage at half time, and appeared to have held off the Coney Islanders with a 7 point ¾ time lead, but the Warriors came home with a wet sail, booting 5 goals to 2 in the last to run out 14 point victors. Reginald Perrin collected 30 touches for the Warriors, while Nakia made a strong comeback for the Royals.

West Coast Wonders 23.7 (145) defeated Geelong Wolves 18.13 (121)

In a free-flowing, entertaining affair, the Geelong Wolves kicked 7 goals to six in the first term with BB 8 kicking 3, and still held a narrow advantage at the half as Bet on Blue dominated around the ground. The new West Coast full-forward TheBeardAmigos took over, kicking6 second half goals to propel his team to a win by 24 points. He finished with a haul of 8, and ClarkeM gathered 31 touches, while for the Wolves Bet on Blue amassed 42 disposals and 4 goals from the centre, and GWBogan and mike123collected 30 apiece.

Dragons FFC 25.9 (159) defeated Fighting Furies 15.12 (102)

A combined 15 goal first term had the Fighting Furies narrowly in front at first huddle, but the Dragons gradually got on top via their centerline of Ljp86 cammo6556 and A Swallow who collaborated for 87 disposals and 4 goals. They managed to progressively quell the Furies’ scoring, while maintaining their own to run away with a 57 point thumping, Sam_Malone bagging 6. For the Furies, akkaps collected 34 disposals and 2 goals to be their best, while Helen Wheels had 28 touches.

Baghdad Bombers 18.5 (113) defeated East Side Hawks 15.11 (101)

The bottom-placed Hawks looked the goods for most of this match. They got a fast start, and led by up to 32 points despite an inaccurate showing from spearhead The Filth Wizard. However, the Bombers hit their straps during the third term, and led by Itsmyshow, over-ran the Hawks with a 7 goal final term to salute by 12 points. Itsmyshow booted 6, while saintkildaman with 30 disposals and beez with 25 and 2 goals were also instrumental in the win. For the Hawks, Wacky Tiger turned back the clock with a vintage display, and Tayl0r and Brown Bottle were also influential.

Roys FFC 18.16 (124) defeated Mount Buller Demons 17.8 (110)

The revitalized Mt Buller Demons were more than competitive against the streaking Roys early, and it took a late second-term goal to Fred to give the Roys the lead at the long break. They extended this steadily through the second half, and led by as much as 27 points in the last, before the returning okeydoke7 put some respectability on the Demons’ 14 point loss. Mooch topped the Roys stat sheet with 27 disposals, while @Willo_was everywhere with 22 and Fred bagged 6 majors. For the vanquished Demons, cooney with 37 touches and RU_ were among the best players on the ground.

Bears v Swamprats:

Las Vegas Bears 16.15 (111) defeated Sin City Swamprats 15.11 (101)

A late goal to Magruder gave the Las Vegas Bears a first huddle lead, and they kept the Swamprats at bay until half time, despite the ominous from of Rats spearhead Gray Day. Sin City hit back to wrest the lead in the third but the Bears steadied, and took a 21 point advantage to the final change. The Swamprats charged again, however, and Gray Day reduced the margin to less than a goal with 15 minutes to play, but Gee Dub, who had been shifted to full-forward with great effect earlier, nailed the game shut with a 23rd minute goal to give his team an 10 point win. kane249 had 25 touches, and RookiePick 21 for the Bears, while Far Kern amassed 33 disposals in the Rats ruck and Gray Day bagged 6 majors for the vanquished.
