What year was that?

2007.

Meanehile back on planet earth. Our club cannot afford the luxury of quiet coach.

Next year may be a tough year on the field. If our coach cant sell then we will get destroyed in the media. Then our sponsors will get hit.

Do you think our sponsors have not been approached by other clubs or organizations in the last month?

We were out for the count last week. We hit back we ith Boyd.

Unfortunately this is just the first round. A bad season and we will have sponsors and players looking elseware.

Just in case we dont win the flag next year!

Whether someone is media friendly is secondary as far as I am concerned. We are having a tough year next year irrespective of the coach. I want a coach who will deliver sustained success first and foremost.

There are plenty of other people in the organisation looking after sponsors, etc, its far from the coach's primary role and shouldn't be a driving consideration in our coach selection process.

But it is a box that needs to be ticked. IMO it is more relivent than being an assistant in a succesful club.

Just because a club is not succesful does not mean as an assistant should be viewed more or less favourably.

Monty may have learnt more in a tough 12 monthes at the bulldogs than tudor in 6 years of cruising in the fast lane.

I would be totally pissed off, if Tudor was appointed.
I'm told close race between Summich and Monty.
To close to call at the moment.

Mate if the selection committee met for the first time yesterday, you would assume they haven't shortlisted or even interviewed all the candidates within 24hrs....find it hard to understand how its a two horse race just yet.

This is such a hard call. Do we go for someone who is a favourite son like Westy or Monty, or do we get new blood in from somewhere else?

All i can say is that yes the coach is important, but it all comes down to the cattle on the park in my view

If we hire a First Year Coach I expect to have a Director of Coaching with him.
It's to much of a risk now letting them go on their own

You may be right, or alternatively, that the last 12 months being tough could well have been contributed to by Monty - we don't know.

Personally, prefer our candidate to have experienced success in a coaching environment. But its by no means a guarantee.

Take Geelong assistants (Sanderson, sacked, Macca, sacked, Hinkley a god apparently. Take Collingwood's, Neeld sacked, Watters sacked, Scott going ok. Take Syd assistants, Longmire, awesome, Lyon pretty handy. But then the mentors of the aforementioned, Malthouse, Roos and Bomber go to different clubs and have done squat.

As someone said, its about the cattle, but its also identifying and training the cattle.

We are going to have to trust the club that their process will identify the right person. The club's handling of the Macca situation has not inspired confidence though.

Maple WB Coach, that would be the West Gate Bridge for me, straight over the top.
Some goose wanted him for senior coach.
I think Yebiga could have coached that Footscray premiership with the list we had lol.
Just to explain my point, I said I would prefer Scott West coaching Footscray, than another Macca who has not played at senior level. We had two senior coaches at the club, who at not played at senior level, pretty hard task.
Have I changed my Mind. ABSOLUTELY NOT.

Edited for completeness, Choc may be good, but shit he has some big flaws that are of concern.

It would be interesting to know how significant a role Joel Corey played in our VFL team - he was certainly in the box with maple.

Agree, the coach and the captain need to be good communicators, unfortunately both Brendan and Ryan had the personalities of a doormat, hence contributed to our irrelevance tag.

Any chance the selection committee comprised of Darcy/Grant/Garlick and Woosha. Has been formed to make an offer to Woosha he couldn't refuse. Allowing him some solid think time to assess whether he firmly believes the outcome we want is achievable, without media following him everywhere he goes. We need a premiership coach, any of Woosha/Bomber/choco fit the bill in my eyes. Anyone else is a bigger risk.

Well lets air them, what are they, in your view?

Read your post that I quoted. He can be divisive. He's a very loose unit. GWS passed him over. He left his club in disarray.

Having said that he has his good points too.

Leigh Tudor most certainly followed the good teams around didn't he. No brainer in my opinion. In some capacity we need someone like him to rectify our defensive issues. If he has put his hand up I would be putting him in charge.

Ok, one more time, then everybody please shut up about it. I'll make it big and bold so you all get it:

Worsfold is not going to be our coach. He is not going to be coaching any club.
