Freo’s early stuff was pretty horrid. Delaney and Ridley for Lloyd and Lucas was a corker.

What was the alternative? We HAD to trade them out. Clubs had us over a barrel. The rules set up for Fremantle coming into the competition were far different (and harsher) than with GWS & Gold Coast coming in.

We were coming into a competition that had been won by West Coast 2 out of the last 4 years. Our club made many poor decisions in our first 15 years but to say we traded out Lloyd and Lucas who we were never allowed to keep is a simplified and ignorant statement.

.
Freo had absolutely no way of obtaining Lloyd and Lucas. the AFL granted compensation for Delaney and Ridley comming back to W.A, Freo were not even in the ballpark to think about Lloyd and Lucas,

Hawthorn gave up favourite son Trent Croad and Luke McPharlin to Fremantle in late 2001. In return the Hawks received picks 1, 20 and 36.

Pick 1 turns into Luke Hodge and pick 36 is Sam Mitchell, with pick 20 Daniel Elstone. Hodge and Elstone are still friends and business partners.

Hodge and Mitchell went on to captain four flags in eight years between them, with Hawthorn getting back Croad as a 2008 premiership player.

Its ok, didnt we trade you the pick that landed Mundy in exchange for Steven Koops?

I love Mundy as a player, but watching him makes me ill. I know we probably wouldn't have taken him anyway, but pick 19 for Koops is a horrible, horrible trade.

Why did they 'have' to be traded?

Not sure about the rules at the time but I believe it's because of paranoia over Freo getting too much of a leg up. You have to remember that Freo were established after WC had just won two flags in three years.

Multiple premierships vs none ?
One player has kicke
d more goals than the other

Dunstall ALWAYS wins!

'One player kicked more goals than the other.'
Dunstall kicked 1254 goals playing as a pure full forward his entire career.
Ablett kicked 1031 goals playing as HF and winger, spending only three seasons as a pure full forward.

There is no comparison.

Dunstall was one of the best FF's the game has seen.
Ablett is among the best footballers period.

I've noticed that you're one of those posters who his limited to 'barracking'. Clearly not an enjoyer of the game itself.

At the time of the trade Christensen for Pick 21 annoyed me but considering the extent of his injuries since I can't really blame that offer. His body is too weak for the top level it seems.

But to then off trade that pick 21 for Rhys Stanley.... is crazy Vossy levels of stupid. Would've been better off drafting Hugh Goddard with the same pick who's also done nothing.

Fremantle's treatment of Mcleod was hilariously bad. Neesham single-handedly cost them one of the games all time greats.
Another absolute misnomer and re-writing of history ...fact is mcleod never wanted to come to freo and was never going to,at any stage, before he EVEN met with neesham.
Dandy Andy and his daddy came over with a single objective in mind when they were to meet neesham and that was to ensure freo would not pre list him and that freo traded his rights to the crows. They did this by simply acting all nonchalant, becoming defensive and misconstrued pretty much most of what neesham said.
Your club was complicit in all this, for the obvious benefit.
In todays world it would simply be classed as draft tampering.

I wasnt particularly a fan of neesham but his work with the clontarf organisation is nationally recognised and has seen some young indigenous boys go onto be drafted into the afl when they were very much a realistic chance of becoming just another government statistic.
So far from costing fremantle an "all time great" hes actually helping young boys(hes still involved there)to potentially go on and become great afl footballers ,and men, when in some cases they wouldnt even make it in the local amateur teams
