The Tianamen Square massacre was 28 years ago.

Realising it's been 26 years this year since I graduated High School.

Thanks to the recruitment of Drew Petrie and Sam Mitchell I've been given a year's grace, but the standard footy fan life cycle.

Early 90s reading the Record: wow, some guys running around were born in the 50s
Late 90s reading the Record: wow, soon someone my age will be playing
Early 2000s reading the Record: wow, Armstrong and Sampi got drafted
Late 2000s on the Google: hmmm, players older than me are starting to thin out
2010s on some smartphone app: ****, I am now older than every single player we have

Most of my favourite rock musicians from the 90s are in their 50s like Billy Corgan and Maynard James Keenan or dead like Chris Cornell and Scott Weiland.

That happened to me about 10 years ago when I found myself listening to ABC radio more than Triple J, I hardly listen to Triple J at all anymore.
Honestly, that's the truth for me too, ABC radio (RN addict). I seldom listen to the mentioned music stations, but I don't mind them, feel snug in what they play.

Even being an appreciator of the radio medium can leave you feeling old nowadays.

Feck me, that last one

The number of iconic albums from my youth having 20th and 25th anniversary reissues this year.
My Unit Rebooted from 1998 (Regurgitator) might be the oldest acquired PC playback device I still own. Still works beautifully as well, took pride of place in my car over the new years period.

I was surprised to hear recently that Neopets is still a thing. I was addicted to Neopets around 2000-2001, and haven't played it since. Assumed it was just a massive fad that vanished down the line, but appears more massive than ever.

Dexter Holland from The Offspring is 52 this year.

I am not OK with this.

Seeing future NBA prospects that weren't even alive when 9/11 happened.

Seeing kids younger than my sister drafted in the AFL. That's probably the main one really. 5-6 years ago I was always hoping I'd get back into footy and miraculously end up good enough to play AFL. Now there's players several years younger than me entering the comp while I'm merely a crappy social footballer. Feels bad.:(

The fact that Ben Cousins life started going to shit a decade ago is also pretty scary. Plenty of kids today wouldn't know who he is and would look at him like I look at the likes of Dunstall, Lockett etc.

I'm not even that old either. But it feels really weird getting to an age now where I'm not considered a kid anymore. Always felt like I'd be in my teens forever. Seeing kids entering high school now that have no idea about a world without iPhones, iPads, wifi etc is really strange.

Also starting to hear a few songs from the early 2000s when I was in primary school on Gold FM and retro Spotify playlists etc. Where did all the time go?

Toy Story being 22 years old. I was born 7 months after it came out, but by the time I was hitting pre school I'd watched it multiple times. Seems weird today to think that kids are far more interested in movies like Frozen and Toy Story is now probably forgotten about a bit.

Try being of the age that was old enough to see it at the cinema, there's a fair bit of nostalgia for it.

I remember seeing both Toy Story and The Lion King at the cinema as a 6-7 year old kid. Thought they were both OK, but was pretty indifferent to them, and have never watched them again since. Fast forward to my mid-20s where seemingly everyone is still in love with these films and schedules in time to re-watch them every few months, and people look at you like you're the one that killed Mufasa when you admit you don't really care for them.

The Lion King I've never been into.

Always enjoyed Toy Story though.

I find it strange that I may well be conversing online with people who were born after 9/11. It's so weird because, even though I was only 9 at the time, I can still remember that day vividly. The kids who were born after that probably don't have any real idea of the impact that event had on the world.

I don't really feel old because I still do a lot of the same shit I did as a teenager (play video games 'til 2am, eat junk food with little care for my body, jerk off); just replace slacking off at school all day with slacking off at uni/work. It does annoy me though when I see people who are years younger than me but far more successful.
