I had a mate wake me up at 7.15am today, asking me if I'd go have a hit of tennis, his normal hitting partner had bailed on him.

Haven't had a hit with him for nearly 2 years, so I hauled my ass out of bed battling a bongover from last night, and I really enjoyed having a hit with him for a couple of hours... Before I spent the rest of the day hobbling around, in complete denial that I've hurt myself.

There are elements of being an AFL fan that suck. Such as knowing that dinging your calf is an "old man injury".

Friggen sucks man, I tell ya! If my building's fire alarm went off tonight - which happens at least once a week, and is a high likelihood when my rooftop has firework views and there'll be a shit ton of people here tonight - I don't think I could get down the stairs in the fire escape.

Memories from 2015+ have a consistent 'it could've been a couple months ago' feeling. Strange to think that's a decade back. Turned 28 that year.

This year is the 50th reunion of my university graduation class. Late August is also the 50th anniversary of my arrival in Australia.

I found out over the weekend that 18 of my high school graduating class of about 190 are known to have died, including one of my best friends who died five years ago. I've not kept up with any of the class since I went to my 30th class reunion in 2000 after I had moved back to the US. I realised then that I had little in common with them after living in Australia for 25 years. Most who attended that evening still lived in the Chicago area and few had been overseas.
