The first is a birthday party for the adults anyway

Kind of I guess. Lots of kids aged 6 months to 3 years so it will be short and frantic I'm sure. Basically parents/friends trying to chat in a tornado of kids.

That actually doesnt sound great. I should have stuck with the hockey. Haha.

You'd be in a bit better shape to enjoy I'd imagine, it wasn't long after your stack that he was born was it?

Yeah, very true. That's probably a big reason why I'm looking forward to it.

Got to admit, infants are difficult. You can feel helpless as a Dad sometimes. So I've been concentrating more on my toddler the past year. My youngest is cruising around walking and trying to chat now though. Much more fun.

Do you have family over there? My ma squeezed two out in eighteen months with no family support, and had to put up with the first signs of my old man putting his career before family, and travelling a lot. It was a tough time for her.

No, not really. My father-in-law lives nearby but works on and off in Surinam. He's hardly here. I've started paying for a babysitter service recently because we only were getting out alone a few times a year.

It's hard work. Getting the hang of it after almost 3 years though.

They're inherently different.

One (the upper class) constitutes immense wealth generated throughout many generations, has an emphasis on maintaining familial wealth, associates only with a select network of families within the same social strata, and wields a significant amount of social, economic and political power. This group constitutes the top one or two percent in a Western society. Examples include the Packer family, the Trump family and Andrew Forrest.

The other (the upper-middle class) generally constitutes a household income of between $200,000 to $750,000 per annum (it could be higher depending on the year) with net assets exceeding $1.5 million. Money may have been prevalent throughout familial generations, however not on the same level as the upper class. A great emphasis is placed on university education, a quality primary and secondary education, extensive travel, cultural awareness, and networking. Unlike the upper class, the upper-middle class (that is, the higher socioeconomic part of the middle class) associates with many different groups in society, but does generally maintain stronger relationships with people of similar means. This is mainly as a result of similar workplaces, children attending the same school, or through clubs or organisations. This group constitutes roughly fifteen percent (the 82nd to the 97th percentile) of the Australian population.

Generally speaking (especially for large businesses), the upper class own the means to the production of capital whereas the upper-middle class either manage, make decisions for, or (in the case of university professors, medical doctors, and lawyers) execute the production of capital.

Thank you, first year 'Social Sciences in Australia' elective. :$

w***er.

Serious question: when do you stop defining yourself by your parents' socio-economic status and start defining yourself by your own?

I guess when you move out?

When you use your own money to buy an Audi, or a 5k watch, or a house in Hyde Park.
Until then you're just an overindulged child.

When they stop supporting you. Up until I started working full-time 6 months ago I had almost no money at all but people said I was rich because I live in a nice area and my parents gave me a car and paid off my hecs debt

To be fair to croweater, short of refusing any assistance from his parents and moving to a third world country he is always going to have pretty much the same socio-economic status as his parents. The same way people from the other end of the spectrum end up in the same financial situation as their parents.

i know many people who would be in a far superior position than crowy that I have never ever heard mention value on most products they buy, in fact at times they're embarrassed by telling.

People will brag about money in all walks of life, it's not limited to prosperity.

I'm about halfway through. Just watched the episode where Lindsay broke up with Nick. His over the top affection made me cringe pretty bad. I think I like Bill the best.
Have you watched the American Shameless on Netflix? I'm really enjoying that.
