There is a whole generation out there who don't need to remember phone numbers in their head. I reckon as a teen I knew about 15-20 numbers in my head.

Having a printer at home.

Public phone boxes, and in a similar vein, landlines.

The Sunday night movie.

I can still remember my best mate from 1976 3rd grade's 6-digit phone number! The only phone numbers my kids know off by heart are mine and Mrs NB's. We made them memorise them when they were very young.

Bookshops. There used to be at least one in every mall, highstreet and suburban shopping centre.

There are still a few bookshops around.

Highpoint as at least 3.

On a similar note, music stores. I used to love going to CD stores with my old man in the early 00s.

That brief period of time in the 90s when sun-dried tomatoes were in bloody everything.

Now they're hardly mentioned.

Very overrated imo, like having dried apricots in a pasta or something, no good.

Apricot chicken is one dish that seems to be extinct, after dinner mints as well.
I still make apricot chicken occasionally.

The internal struggle you had to contend with as a kid when on a Friday night you had to choose between one overnight video or 3 weekly videos.

Those dilemmas were real.

So was the family dust up over what movie to get.

Houses in my neighbourhood.

Some I can remember.
Others, I have to refer back to Street View.
My late Nanna's street is like that.
Most of the houses are going one by one. Even hers has been demolished and townhouses are there now.
Only Streetview and the real estate listing photos is all that's left.

The little local delis or milk bars have mostly all disappeared and have been replaced by petrol station mini marts and 7-Elevens.

Yeah I miss the old CD stores, that was one of the few places I wanted to go to in shopping centres.

Most of them would have bargain bins which you could rifle through and pick up some genuine bargains amongst the shit CDs.

The best were the one overnight and 5 weekly deals, plus maybe a Super Nintendo game, that's a weekend

Our video store had a 7 weekly videos for 7 dollars, you would usually get a few shit ones but at a dollar a pop it didn't matter.

If you forked out the big bucks for an overnight video and it was a dud that was more of a problem so you had to be more picky.
