Root canal really isn't as bad as it sounds. At least my experience was it. You have anaesthetic for the procedure and when it wears off there is a bit of tenderness and sensitivity but nothing too dramatic. I know some people get infections and pain, but I did not take a single pain pill during the month or so that I was doing this.

They're removing the nerves from your tooth so essentially you can't feel anything in that tooth anymore. Any pain/tenderness is from the gums around the tooth.

The toothache that led to me getting a root canal was way worse than the root canal itself.

I don’t mind the dentist - do my twice yearly visit to ensure other work is kept to a minimum and I like being an ex smoker that they always do a check of my tongue and mouth for any changes

strangely I hate the sensation of how it feels once they’ve been cleaned

I had 2 root canals done at the same time in Thailand about 4 or 5 years ago
I think it only took 2 visits
Including one for the crown

Not much pain except a sore mouth from keeping it open for a few hours
A lot cheaper than Australia too it included a free holiday for the price

Most overpaid profession ever.
I've got angle grinders, pliers and a high pressure washer, but I don't buy a new Merc every year.

Profession with the highest rate of suicide and burnout

Think they more than earn their salary

Best sensation EVER to experience re dentist/orthodontist is to have your braces finally removed. Omfg... sweetest thing in the world.

Wouldn't be the most enjoyable work staring into people's gobs all day but they get paid very well compared to many other highly educated/skilled professions. Just look at the car they drive next time you visit the surgery.

People bang on about helping the poor all the time.

One of the major things that the poor cannot afford is dental treatment.

I'd have zero issue if it was added to Medicare on the benefits card.

**and all the lefties here just fainted**

Ten years ago I was in Singapore on a course and got an infected root. Fortunately I knew some IBMers working there and they recommended a good dentist. Rang up, got an appointment in 4 hours, ten minute walk from the class, X-rays, anaesthetic, discussion, removed the tooth (it was toast), picked up a course of antibiotics and kickarse painkillers from the receptionist on the way out.

Unfortunately my travel insurance didn't cover it, I had to fork out over SIN$31. About $27 in our money back then.

My mouth is pretty stuffed and I've put off having major dental surgery for about fifteen years. Last time I checked it out, I was looking at $5k-$6k plus dentures. $3k to have the same work done in Singapore including airfares and ten nights recovery in a nice hotel with medical staff available if needed.

Do they still have the dental van (Lisa needs braces!) at schools? Used to dread going there.

Remember my youngest, (18), going and pleading for a sick note.

They were sadists in my day. Hated them with a passion. Actually terrified me.

I haven't been to the dentist for 20 years, much to the disgust of my late mother. To be fair to me, still have all my teeth and haven't had any issues (and they are clean and look fine). My mum was disgusted as my parents did pay for me to have braces growing up and thought I should take better care of them.

A car service should only cost $100-200. If something needs fixing then it's parts and labour on top of that. Mechanical labour is <$100/hr. Dealers and some other service centres will rip you off with "genuine" parts that cost much more than they should, or they'll fix things that don't really need fixing, or if they are really dishonest and think you know nothing about cars will tell you they had to replace the flux capacitor and charge you $2k. I have a mate with a BMW and while I can't afford one anyway (sorry Bomberboyokay if that doesn't suit your narrative) it has put me off owning one. Every time it goes in it needs some expensive new part from Germany.

Going to the the dentist is more a case of a poke with a sharp object here, a high speed drill there, that horrible little drool suction vacuum thing and then half an hour later you are staring at a $500 bill. It's a profitable gig but it's not like anyone can do it.

I hate the dentists for the same reason I hate the mechanics -- you have very little idea of what you have to spend before you go in, so lots of people just avoid going.

My dentist is very upfront re. Cost- i book my appointments via email and always ask. And when hes said he wanted to clean my teeth ive said no in the past sometimes. You just gotta stand your ground.

And same with Ford the other day. Said brake fluid needed changing for am extra $100 nup my uncle can do that cheers.

My boss organising a team lunch today. Why the fu** would I want to spend my one free half hour a day sitting with people I don't like eating s**t food that I don't want.

Update: The place we went to took an hour to bring our food. Ended up taking 2 hours off work, so not so bad in the end.

The missus has settled her custody battle but the signed papers haven't been approved as yet. She still may have to go to court (and pay the legal costs) early next week if it doesn't happen by the end of today (public holiday tomorrow and all). Her lawyer has been spending plenty of time trying to get it done etc - all chargeable hours. ****ing disgusting how lawyers and courts drag it out just to get more $$$$.

Its like the other sides 'offers' were to take the offer and get it signed etc.........then the final offer that both parties knew would get agreed to, had all the extra forms that need to be signed for it to be finalised. The other offers were just bullshit ones. The ****ing back and forth between parties and lawyers getting their chargeable hours up is so ****ing corrupt. I told her lawyer to just write what we wanted and explain why and it would be done quick as a flash but 'no, that isn't how it is done'. Low and behold, 2 weeks later after I blatantly told her to do it our way or she can go and get ****ed, she did it our way and it was all agreed upon that day.
