Great game by Jetta, that's what we want.
The young fella's stood up again.
McVeigh's effort just before half time was pathetic, should have dived and knocked it through.
Mike Pyke was fantastic against Lurch

I have to agree with you Bedders on that Pavlich goal.
It wasn't the best from any of the 3 defenders on that occasion. Diving may not have been an option as it would have taken out Pavlich's legs.
I actually think that it was a case of each of our three players waiting for the other to actually do something & it became one of those instances where Pav outsmarted them all. It happens.

Macca should have done better there. But he did have a great second half where his role changed taking the kick ins when Mal was subbed off.
One particular effort that didn't go unnoticed by my family whilst watching the game was when he backed into a pack & got crunched but he was straight back up into the next contest.

I like to give credit to a player's strength & I believe that Macca's best asset is that he can quickly switch into a different mode when asked to by the coaches & most importantly he can carry a niggle through games.
He has been terrific for our club & no doubt he isn't perfect but should we miss him for a game or two through injury, then it would significantly rob us of extreme versatility.

Go Bloods!

I agree.
His job, like Jetta, is to possess and create plus chase down. we already have monsters like JPK, Parker and KJack to do the bash and barge.
He is the best ball user in the team.
I actually don't want them in the scrimmages because we would suffer without them.

About to be on ill count the steps

Freo fans mostly blaming umps, just amuses me

I think they might have a point, and I'd think any Swans fan slagging the umpires is a one-eyed moron. We generally got a very smooth run ...

... as for anything else I "learned":

1) Luke Parker would be an elite footballer if his disposal was slightly better ... but that will come. But by god, he's tough.
2) Lewis Jetta is now as effective and important to us as he was in 2012, great game.
3) Jake Lloyd! Just that, Jake lloyd ... talk about under the radar ... he'd have barely raised an eyebrow all season, and certainly hardly been mentioned at Rising Star voting, but he's an outstanding prospect. So damn composed and seems to ALWAYS be there when needed, in defence to get on the outside and run; in the midfield when that next handpass is required, or making himself available on a wing; and up forward, making tackles, applying pressure, keeping it locked in, AND he can kick a goal. It is remarkable that our great club can keep producing these kids from nowhere ... Zac Jones will be another one ...
4) Mike Pyke ... who says he's not up to it. Might not be the most gifted, most athletic, might not be the best tap ruckman, but that goal, to make that effort at that stage of the game ... great to have him back.
5) I hope, after winning another flag, Goodes decides to retire. As great as he is, I believe it's time.

I am happily a one eyed moron then no way did the umps cost them the game

We had a game record 21 smothers most in the second half, the Pav goal that should have been smothered happened in the dying minutes of the second half, a record 3rd quarter 10 smothers by the Bloods and Macca earns play of the day backing into a pack great stuff... Im pretty sure there must have been a half time bake.

I thought we looked switched on and had great intensity from the opening bounce, it was frustrating they seemed to score because of own errors and kept it closer eg Rohan turnover, Kennedy turnover

This, I thought the frees we got in front of goal were pretty regulation ones? We got a fair run, and maybe a couple could have been let go given it was a big final, but it certainly didn't cost them the game.

Just come to light that Ballantyne has a broken jaw

That tackle on Teddy I reckon.

He wasn't the only Freo player who attempted to rough a Swan up in a tackle and walked away limping. No sympathy from me.

A lot of snipers in the Freo side. The free kick count was in our favour for good reason.

Hey bombersno1, what was with the pool of water in the pocket? Did the super sopper stop working?

The rest of the ground seemed to cone up well.

Restrictions, and I hate them but the rest of the ground came up well. You are no allowed to use it near the pockets as the rope goes over the line.

Always say that unless in exceptional circumstances, if you have to blame the umps you are in trouble. They were outplayed, Swans were first to the ball. What did the want the umps to give them free kicks for? Being slow?

Umps were good over all.

Didn't notice them except for a few holding the balls which should have been paid both ways - Harry's run down in particular comes to mind.

1. Lyon doesn't like Freo supporters
2. Lyon doesn't like being touched
3. Lyon especially doesn't like to be touched by Freo supporters.
4. Lyon does like the c word. A lot.
5. Lyon doesn't like telephones
6. Lyon smiles a lot when he is really not happy at all
7. Late in a game when he's losing, Lyon falls asleep with his eyes open

9. If a Sydney Team qualifies for a home Prelim and no body is there to see it. Did it really happen? Yes. Yes of course it did. Why wouldn't it? Philosophy is lame.

I also don't like being touched ... apart from this incident, the (disappointing) crowd's contribution was limited.

I did not even hint at that ... we were clearly the better side. My point was that suggesting we got a rough deal from the umpires on Saturday smacks of mindless, ignorant parochialism.

Saturday was ok to me.
It was the Richmond game that annoyed me. Decisions like the two 50 metre penalties, another 3 or 4 soft goals from frees plus watching Rance escape ITB about 5 times in last 10 minutes. Seemed clear to me that the object was to get Richmond into the finals.

Mundy is big. Heard it many times in TV commentary but seeing him live next to JPK made it very real
I fully support Gary Rohan taking the game on - when he took off between those two players I loved it, shame he ran too far
Smothers all important to winning the game - 1%ers: 68 vs 45

This deserves to be posted on the main board. Excellent work.

Apologies for mis understanding. I thought they had no impact at all personally

Really surprised at the cheap shots some Freo players were making eg dawson on Buddy and Sandi on Parker, an inch higher on a couple of hits and they'd be spending a couple of weeks out - not like them at all. Coupled with the coach being unhinged at 3/4 time says something about their stay of mind on Saturday.

Dawson is like that very loose with his arms and elbows.
