Tarrant would be a good get but I'm amazed his namehasnt come up before in any discussions. Cant see why he'd leave North when Petrie is nearing the end of his career though.

Is that the entire list?

Do you have any reasons to think Carlton are targetting him or are you wishin and hopin?

Pulled a contracted player's name out of thin air

I wonder if Daisy is asking his Old Xav manager why he couldn't get a 5th year at $700 k per year like his brat pack member.

Why haven't Carlton been linked to Jess White? He'd be clearly in your best 22 even if he isn't as good as some would lead you to believe.

White has apparently stated his preference to fight your big forward FA acquisition from last year for the coveted role of CHF in your VFL side.

How funny would it be if when FA compo picks are announced on Friday, Collingwood get an end of first round like Andy McKay (who knows all the intricate details of Thomas's contract which determines FA compensation) expects?

Would you guys still be saying 'thanks for pick 20ish'?

His contract is only 1 factor.

Criterion used include.

Age - Thomas is 26. A good reference is the Goddard case. Goddard was 27.
Contract length - Thomas - 4 years - Goddard ditto.
Initial Draft Pick - Thomas - 2 - Goddard - 1.

Thomas ticks 2 boxes here. Goddard 2.

Contractual worth.
Achievements - I.e AA selections, premierships and B&F finishes.

McKay might know the in and outs of the contract but it is only 2 points of the criterion the AFL use. The only people who know the compensation are the AFL and they have communicated via Gil that Thomas lines up with Goddard's compensation.

Wrong Kenno. That was how compensation was determined for players leaving to expansion clubs. There are different rules for free agent compensation:

COMPENSATION
A club that has a net loss of players transferring to/from other clubs as free agents in one transfer period is entitled to compensation via National Draft picks allocated by the AFL.
The compensation formula produces a points rating for players based on:
1. The new contract of the free agent;
2. The age of the free agent.

http://www.afl.com.au/afl-hq/the-afl-explained/free-agency

Free agency compensation does not take into account B&F results, AA, any awards or performance indicators. Simply contract length, dollars & age of player - which Andy McKay would be well across ;)

Why haven't Carlton been trying harder to get Adams. He's a quality young player and Carlton have close to 0 quality midfielders under the age of 25. If I were them I'd be going hard at him.

This is a fair point. Thomas is a great player and addresses a need at Carlton who lack depth in the midfield. But the lack of under 23 yo midfield depth is quite startling. Looking at the list there is Lucas, Buckley , Graham Yarran, Bell, Cachia Temay and Menzel. A number of untried kids, a few peripheral 22 yo's, and some flankers who look unlikely to transition into centre square duties. Taylor Adams or someone like him is an important area for Mick to address. You will need a few of these types soon as Judd Carrazzo Scotland and Simpson will all be gone in the next 2 years it seems. McLean also not far behind.

Still both easily in your best 22.

Oh look, another misinformed Collingwood fan.

No mate, neither Lynch nor Shaw would be in our best 22. Both would be behind Henderson and Waite as our key forwards. Only when we're looking to play a 3rd tall forward or when one of the above-mentioned two is struck down by injury would one of White or Lynch get a look in, as they're better than Casboult and Rowe - I'll give you that.

So in other words you're admitting that just like big Q, Jesse would knock back an offer at Visy in order to play 2's at the pies.

Oh dear, this is a shocking one...even for you.

No, I wasn't saying that, but of course you knew that already.

Keep on doing what you do best - try to spin the words of others to suit your flimsy points of view. It didn't work this time, but there are plenty of idiots out there who won't see past it.

Jesus there are some great posts in this thread.
All supporters over rate thier own club's list.
Collingwood supporters over rate their list more than most as a rule. At least they have some recent history of top 4s and a flag to hang their hat on.
My god are there some huge over ratings by Carlton supporters. They have barely won a final in a decade, fell into the finals from 9th and have shown little to no advancement in 2 years.

Thomas will be a good player and will improve the side if he can get his ankle right. I have no doubt about that. However there is not a single first choice 22 player for Colligwood last year that would not walk into the Carlton side if fit. Not one. There would be lucky to be much over half of Carlton's list in that catagory. They are carried by their top end. That is exactly why they are having and will continue to have big turnover. It won't be turnover of players outside their best 22 that will improve them and they won't get pointy end draft picks for most of what they try and trade.

i think that's the more likely scenario. they won't give collingwood more than they give hawthorn.

My thoughts too. The panel who decide the compo picks has the power to recommend a different outcome to the normal protocol if they feel it is a special circumstance. You would think the AFL wouldn't like the look that the biggest deal ever gets a worse compo pick than Collingwood for Thomas.
