Reported on HFC website that Nathan Thompson during his acceptance speech for a goal kicking award @ the Hawks B&F said "i have lost interest in football ".With that public admission , what are our chances now of firstly trading him to anyone ,let alone getting something decent in return.Sounds to me like he is really losing the plot .Not the type of thing to say publicly even if it is true .

fully agree Buster the hawk, it makes it now real hard to trade him now for something good, and looks like he is losing it, maybe he is retiring?

Which ever one he said, it really doesn't matter, it makes it now real tough to get something for him, seriously was their a reason for him to say that in public? this whole thing is getting out of control.

He didn't say that at all...he said "I don't enjoy football anymore, which is a shame'. He never said he has lost interest in it.

He did say that he had lost interest in football !!!

I'm one that hasn't heard/read that quote being directly attributable to Thompson. Might be true, might not. What I have is last nights quote of "I don't enjoy it" which can be construed fairly much the same thing in any case (from my pov).

Either way, he's also said that he put his name forward IF the club could get something of value for him and if not, he'd be the first one at training when it re-commences.

Hardly (as some have suggested) 'shafting' the club.

Actually, Thompson has a point. As a spectator I'm not sure I enjoy the game any more, I certainly wouldn't want to play it. It isn't a game any more, and with all the expectation placed on them I can't imagine players enjoy the game as much as they used to.

I used to be a Thompson style of player, a tall forward/ruckman, and I couldn't play the game with the ball chipping around the midfield and changing direction all the time, you wouldn't know when to lead. And I couldn't cope with a defender hanging onto me every time I went for the ball.

All the focus on players' lives 24/7, it must drive them crazy. They can't pass wind without it being reported in the press. I know these guys get paid a lot of money and as such are accountable to the supporters, both corporate and otherwise, but it can't be much fun living in a glasshouse.

Players are also not allowed a bad year any more. Have a bad one and you are traded or your career is over. Our lack of tollerence for losing is placing ridiculous and unwarranted pressure on players. The attitude is you just aren't allowed to lose any more, which is surprising considering for every winner there is a loser.

one the one hand if thommo stays at the club next year you cannot play someone who has lost interest in football and on the other it sends a good message to other clubs who in turn will lose interest in him.

Thompsons pointless decision to out himself as a depressive personality was his first mistake if he gave a stuff about the HFC. It severely damaged his value in the marketplace and ironically may now spoil his chances of getting traded. At the time I thought this odd announcement served no purpose other than shifting the focus off the pitiful form of both player and team. It seems a few home truths from the new coach was all that was needed for the VC to want out. He has now "shafted"the club twice in one year.

hey hawthorn supporters. Bad luck on a year you will probably want to forget.
I just have a question.
What would you guys say to this.....
Gardiner OR Cox to St.Kilda
Hay and Thompson to West Coast
.... to Hawthorn (What would you want.....Pick 16? Leigh Montagna and Troy Schwarze)????

Hay and Lekkas to West Coast

Lisha no, we lose a FB, FF and gain a okay pick but a couple of fringe players, not a good deal.

now that you changed it, still no ;)

ok lisha, since we west coast supporters have said this so much to you i will say it very slowly and HOPEFULLY you can get it.

Cox = number one ruckman.
ok got that?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gardiner = chf, ff, fp,. becoz of his dodgy knee(like goodes') he wont ruck.

Seaby = starts fp or bench and is backup for cox. not ready to ruck full game.

if we got tommo and lost gards, tommo would play FULL forward, and i would rather have doogs at ff than chf for now.

if we lost cox, he would ruck, most of the time, and coxy is a better ruckman....waste of time for us?!!!!!!

if we lose seaby,(best out of all of them at the same age) tomo would back up ruckman, and prolly push dougs to a pocket,

as for hay, can he play anywere but full back?
maybe bp?
would we give up one of those 3 for a bp?
or a backup for glass?

so wats the point of us doing this trade?

will WE become a better team? no.

will st kilda yes.
pass.

Lisha let them keep Cox while the saints need him i fail to see what we can get in return in this 3 way that is of any benefit to us, Hay & Thommo/lekkas > anything you have suggested imo.

Everitt was also no.1 ruckman at the saints, but they still traded him, and with gardnier on his way back, you guys might see this as a prime time to get maybe a Key Forward? something i thought you guys would love to get.

hahaha don't make me laugh so hard, backup to glass, glass would be out of a job, Hay AA FB, can play CHB as well, what has Glass done again? don't worry we keep AA Hay you keep playing Glass at FB

meh, you dont rate him good for you, when he came back into our list with no pre season, he made our defence much stronger, you keep AA hay form a few years back.
also i admit i didnt rate glass at begining of year so its no suprise you dont rate him, hopefully he can back it up this year though and get noticed a bit more.

and most hawthorn supporters i speak to say hays an ok CHB, but a gun FB.
They may be wrong as well, and i havent seen him play in a while.

Yeah his quote doesnt help his chances of getting traded, so he kind of dug his own hole there. I get the feeling he'll just play out his contract for the next 2 years, as with depression if Football isnt enjoyable, can't imagine him quitting to work an ordinary 9-5 job.

I hope WC offer us their first rounder and we take it, as I said I don't see Thommo playing past his contract, let alone improving to consistancy next year.

i never said i don't rate him, i just don't rate him anywhere near as much as Hay. Hay missed the pre-season and quite a bit of the regular season, he came back and beat the likes of tredrea without even being totally fit, i know not all hawk's supporters rate him as high as i do.

again, i actually do rate him (glass), and want him to do well, i still think Hay is better, perhaps if you got hay you could move one to chb, as Hay has done that in the past, and done it quite well ... of course i hope Hay stays.

I see Hay as either one, depending on game situation and structure required.

I know what i said about Hay being AA and asking what Glass has done, i was just trying to get a point across that Hay has being AA before, and at times is badly under-rated, especially by our own. It doesn't mean i think Glass is a dud, i just don't see him as being as good as Hay, maybe he will be one day, but to me, not yet.

If Thommo really has this mental illness (depression) then i feel for him & hope he gets the required help necessary ,but as a hawthorn supporter i am sick to death of reading about our players in the media for everything else other than football.I don't care whether or not Crawford is gay or Trent Croad is Bond's underwear's main man or dare i say it,Thompson has depression ,i just want ot see us win games again & not be the laughing stock of the league as we are @ present. If what was reported on the HFC website is true about Thommo then he should retire now so we can free up some salary room & get someone who is interested in football.I am a passionate supporter of thirty years but the players off field lifestyle or state of mind is of no concern to me & neither it should be.

I agree Buster. After he has finalised his list, I see Clarkson's first process as finding a way to make the playes focus on the job onfield. I am not fond of this 24/7 crap, I am only interested in what the players do for 120 minutes when they are representing the Hawthorn Football Club for premiership points. I really don't think it is too much to expect to have the players focus on nothing but footy for just 2 lousy hours a week is it?

Adelaide Hawk and Buster of the same ilk, I support your comments fully. For great sakes, HFC, get down to being concerned about improving ourselves as a football club!!
