If we get any picks in the range of 5-9, then Geelong will absolutely be obligated to give something back in return (Pick 36 IMO). I still think Carlton's 9 for Papley ls the most likely possibility (for 24 and Future 1st: 14-18). It would mean that Sydney can get future picks for their academy kids (Points value of 1469 for 1770), they won't have Pick 9 to trade, and then they can just give up Pick 5 and your Pick 24 for Daniher. 9 and 14 to us, with Kelly and 36. In trade terms 14, 24 and Future 1st (2,927 points if you win the flag), for Kelly (values Kelly at 2427 points) and 36 (502 points). This is in line with last year's offer of 20, 22 and Future 2nd - 34 this year (2299 points). This would mean there's only a points difference of 128. Cats are getting what they want, you guys are getting what you want, and Sydney are getting what they want. Win win for everyone.

That looks as fair as it could get within reasonable expectations of pick swaps.

Kelly choose West Coast because of the Eagles ladder position and that Freo promised to draft him and didn't.
This little tidbit probably says more than anything.

If Freo told Kelly they were going to draft him and didn't.. Can understand why he wants to go to the Eagles.

Freo had their chance.

Gee I hope this deal is done quickly just to end this thread. But I am sure VFL house has instructed all involved to string it out until the last day just to keep themselves in the news.
Just like every other trade where a player requests a certain club the trade will happen and we will all sit here saying why did we all talk around in circles for so long about something we knew what the probable outcome would be.

What are you on about? This idea that he’s not happy to go to Freo just went out the window. There was no fact just WC supporter hype.

He prefers WC, however Freo are now in box seat. Going on last year not sure that WC want him that much but we’ll see come Monday onwards.

Some Geelong supporters🙄🤣

Why is Tim Kelly the only player in history who isn’t allowed to nominate a club?

I still haven’t seen any explanations that haven’t been drenched in hypocracy.
Apparently having autistic children makes it different that you should just accept where the media, supporters and previous club want you to go.

You give up your right to choose unlike other players who are just homesick or chasing money.

In fairness a fair few opposition posters have already said that TK choosing WC is fine and want more discussion around what’s a fair deal.

Draft order is
1. Suns
2. Suns
3. Melbourne
4. Adelaide
5. Sydney

Given our relationship with Sydney, I see 5 being attainable. We know how to help each other

Once we have that, it’s easier to deal with Adelaide as moving from 4 to 5 gets them the player the wanted (bar Kelly). Melbourne would effectively only move back 1 spot from 3 to 5 and given no stand out contenders after 1/2, premium would not be that high.

Cats need to cease from their grandstanding, virtue-signalling & wailing on this one....It's doing them & their club no favours at all.

Hawks secured Tom Mitchell for pick 14 & Tim Kelly aint no Tom Mitchell.

Kelly is a much more damaging player.

Kicks goals and brings forwards into the game. 20 handballs and 10 kicks with no scoreboard impact isnt close.

Hawks fan trolling Cats fans is no surprise though.

I like how we all had to listen to these big sob stories about Ablett and Dangerfield after they named ONLY Geelong too.

Jump before Freo and get Kelly on draft if Geelong doesn't want to trade that pick for Kelly + a 3rd. 3rd just due to out of contract status, this looks doable.

At the time of trade that would be correct

Mitchell went up in value after getting to hawthorn

He’d fetch more than 14 now

I must be in the minority, because I absolutely am. Maybe there can be a clause that gives the player a chance to 'back out' if their position changes, but largely, I'd rather just hear the player say they're going and focus on the footy.

I can guarantee, that as much as the AFL media piss and moan about access, that they would be one of the key parties that wouldn't want this to happen. How else would they speculate and write a thousand BS articles with no substantiation?

I'm ok with it. Franklin to Sydney was a done deal in 2012 and they had to keep it quiet for a year and string GWS along.

NRL style announcements don't happen in the AFL because we have so few UFAs. You can't publicly announce a handshake agreement. The AFL doesn't want trades being agreed a year in advance which is what you really need to do a deal like Kelly. He couldn't announce he's joining another team because he needs to be traded.

The AFL have their heads buried deep though. You get the odd surprise move like Ryan Burton but Daniher, Hill, Kelly... People have been talking about them for ages.

Why wouldn’t we? It’d be remiss of us to not.
Because of some unwritten truce we don’t go after each other’s players BS. Lel.

F that, let’s bid up his value and at least make them pay overs or we end up with an elite mid for 6 & a second rounder (fair value).

More the pay scale, tbh. He's earning 550-600K with the Suns (apparently). Motlop garnered an end of 1st rounder, as did Lycett. Both same sort of ilk. I never thought he was worth an end of 1st, but I did think given everything, that he'd be worth a mid second (25-30). End of second is pretty bad, considering other deals that have gone through.

And I'm no large fan of Richmond either.
They don’t do mid second as a band though? It is tied to ladder so in effect for premiers band 3= band 4 (a la buddy comp being band 2)

Unless West Coast totally offer nothing, lets stay out of it.

It hurts both clubs if we get into a bidding war over players.

We just need to bid slightly better than WCE and by initially saying his preference is WCE, Kelly has left the door ajar for Freo to come in if the Cats aren’t satisfied with what WCE dish up. There’s nothing untoward about our involvement because we haven’t been shut out. Personally I want us to get Kelly, so until he signs with WCE, I want us to still be in it.
