Tim Paine caught in sexting scandal, resigns as Test Captain

I like that both Joe Root and Tim Paine managed to fit in an Ashes plug at the end of their scandal responses, that's dedication.
Both missed the sponsor's plug though

Dumb from Paine, and a terrible betrayal of his wife. However I don’t have an ounce of sympathy for the woman in question. She was a willing and active participant in the back and forth sexual innuendo exchanges. Apparently only got seriously offended when she was charged with theft 7 months later. Very convenient. But no doubt she’ll now become the anonymous poster girl of the Me Too movement. She’ll emerge from this looking like Mother Theresa.

Way too much common sense in this post - actually borderline unpopular - when you're expected to jump on the ALL men are perverts/sexual predators that can rarely resist exposing themselves while sharing consensual related adult exchanges, be they online or waking down the street..!

Be almost disappointed if this story doesn't trigger the ABC to run another one of their victimhood related current affair features about ALL women living in fear due to the despicable, sexual predatory behaviour of men...

Mate, the world has gone mad.

Remember when Lehmann got suspended for yelling a racial slur in the dressing room at the Gabba in 2002/03?

Apologised, fined and suspended for a game or 2 and everyone moved on.

Imagine if that happened today?

The only way to get noticed these days on social media is to dial up the outrage. Which in turns feeds into a positive feedback loop of more outrage.

saw a dialogue online of the texts...........

Doesn't paint a portrait of the Australian captain in a positive light. To be the captain of the Australian cricket team, you have to be a person of high integrity.
Seems like Paine goes from 0 to 100 at least in this exchange. From light flirting to talking about beating his meat like it owes him money and the lady pivoting/backpedalling to talking about work.

The only victim in that chat is his wife. Two consensual people texting dirty to each other isn't scandalous.

Four years ago I fcuk up - assault you at a kids footy game, have a crack at your wife while drunk one night etc. Anyway, we get it sorted at the time, I apologize for being a idiot, a settlement of some nature is reached and we get on with our lives.

Then for whatever reason, my current public identity probably the main one, yesterday you decide to go to the media and share the fact that I made a mistake and was an imbecile four years ago..?

It got me thinking , as you get climb up the hierarchy of cricket- past misdemeanours count (even going far back as 10-15 years ago)

Look if it was a player other than captain- it shouldn't affect his position in the team.

Im actually surprised he quit and basically its an end to his career at his age.

Even if he stepped aside and was wicket keeper alone i could understand.

You're not the Australian captain with expectations of sponsors to live up to. There's a difference.

He's only quit as captain AFAIK.

There is no doubt an element of truth to that but there are a couple of points to this.

Paine and Cricket Australia have tried to brand him as a great familly guy, with high integrity and good judgement.

This has none of that and to be honest it shows him as a bad judge of character. If he wasnt married and she wasnt a work collegue I dont think it was a story.

The other point is with the media required of the Captain if he deserves it or not it would become a huge distraction.

He admitted his conduct was not that of what we should expect of an Australian Test Captain.

as I said earlier, why did CA not see it as a time bomb then?
CA were hoping to keep it quiet... as they have done with many other issues back under Sutherland.

The question is why it's come out now after 4 years? Was seeking money to stay quiet now Paine is worth much more than he was 4 years ago.

He’s dreaming if he thinks he can ride this out - pass the baton
Let's be honest, Paine is not the best keeper batsman & was only keeping his place as captain.

There are 2 better options in the squad. I was thinking at the time it was strange to name 3 keepers... now we know why!

OK, but CA were aware of the incident - wouldn't they have simply stood down Paine (or asked him to accidently break a finger or two) if they thought this was serious enough and/or any chance of becoming public knowledge..?
