I dont know about you but the other thread is giving me the shits. Can we keep this thread just for updates on Tippett.

Well he was in negotiations according to the other thread, and an announcment was meant to happen last week. Worrying times.

No it wasn't.

That was an assumption by posters on this Board, not by the club.

The club met with Tippett and his manager last week and said that negotiations were continuing and that they were optimistic of a favourable result.

His manager said something similar while giving the impression that he will eventually sign.

It's all about money. How long and for how much.

I posted on here a bit over 2 weeks ago that a source close to Tippett told me that this was not going to be an easy sign up for the Crows, and that he and his manager would be playing hard-ball. Eventually he will sign, but it will cost the Crows a lot more than they had bargained for originally.

Nothing in the process to date contradicts what I was told then, so unless the wheels fall off, I expect him to eventually re-sign.

Remember, the longer he takes, the higher his contract value goes.

Because Gold Coast have twice the money

Because the Gold Coast are always going to be able to offer more money hence ensuring that his 3% is greater?

Both good points.

But if we are simply talking money, wouldn’t his objective be to get him to Brisbane where he would have more influence with sponsors?

This would give him far more room to move in selling his client hence making more money for himself – if this was about money?

Interesting logic which I disagree with.

The sponsors who are interested in Tippett personally will follow him to the Gold Coast, Adelaide or Brisbane and I'd suggest that any contacts Lynch has with Brisbane's sponsors would only be marginally more than with random companies. I hardly see a VISY type ambassadorship being flogged Tippett's way.

If this is just about money (which **** I hope it's not) the biggest carrot is always going to be the Gold Coast.

But just on this Brisbane thought, can you imagine a Tippett/Brown forward line? Shudder!

FFS - I'm getting so annoyed with this. JUST SIGN THE BLOODY CONTRACT NOW KURT! :mad:
If he wants money - then he can p*ss off the the Gold Coast, the Crows will never be able to compete if money comes into it, unless Tippett wants to play all by himself because we wouldn't be able to afford any other players.
I am actually SO sick of it! If he doesn't end up signing, I will go to training and kick him in the shins for being a selfish tool! :p

Isn't the fact that Kurt is actually sitting down with us now (with one year left on his contract) to negotiate a sure sign he will stay? He doesn't have to re-negotiate now, he could wait until the end of next season but he is in talks RIGHT NOW.

If Kurt doesn't sign an extension in the next few weeks, everyone will know he is leaving at the end of 2010. That would suck, for the crows and Kurt!

getting ridiculous isnt it!

his going to stay, he always was! why the hell would anyone leave an established club to go into uncharted waters, especially considering the only player they actually have established is an NRL player lol.

I cant believe all the fan fare thats gone on in the media and on forums. He will sign for the pure reason that the whole of next year would be a living hell for him if he didnt at the very least!

Bit of patience guys, it's still early in the off season and he's contracted for next year. It's not as if we only have a week left before he can walk. Logic says there would be a fair bit of negotiation and such before he signs the dotted line, he is a super talent with the footy world at his feet. All indications are that he is very keen to stay, but that doesn't mean he will settle for a deal he is not happy with. Give it time, this is a powerful, professional club and they are fully aware of how important a commitment from Kurt is to our premiership chances. They will do what it takes, so long as it isn't utterly absurd, to re-sign him.

If this is just about money (which **** I hope it's not) the biggest carrot is always going to be the Gold Coast.

Gold Coast don't have a bottomless pit of money, they also have to be smart with it, they only get an extra $1M TPP than anyone else and that covers 10 extra players than what we have on our list.

They can sign 12 17yo's this year then they get 1,2,3,5,7,9,11,13,15 (as well as the first pick in each round 26, 43 and so on) of the 2010 draft, now they would hope that at least 5-6 of their first 9 picks are going to be elite players, they are going to be hot property that are going to have to be paid well at some point, the last thing GC need is signing a bunch of 17yo's to the mandatory 2 year contract and then have them all want double the contract next time around.

Adelaide are notoriously frugal with paying players, they have never been outrageous, guys like Roo, Macca, Rehnny, Mods, Jars, Goody et al could have all got much more money elsewhere. The difference between our lowest paid and highest paid is much closer than most Clubs, if the Crows really wanted to throw money at him they could.

Personally, it won't come down to money, if thats all it is, the Crows will more than satisfy him with that if they decide he's worth it. It will come down to what is more important to him - home or what he sees at the Crows. Simple as that. The kid should be holding out and getting the best deal he can get, if he's not his manager is a moron. I suspect his manager is not a moron, they know Adelaide can pay him what he wants.

Really? I wasn't aware they would have 10 extra players (not that I really had thought about it at all, so I have no reason to doubt you). That is big actually - surely at least a couple of those ten extra players will be good players and the extra money will simply disappear.

Will they retain ten extra players on the list for a while?

2011 – 48 senior list, nine rookies with $1m TPP extra allowance;
2012 – 46 senior list, nine rookies with $800k TPP extra allowance;
2013 – 42 senior list, nine rookies with $600k TPP extra allowance;
2014 – 40 senior list, nine rookies with $400k TPP extra allowance;
2015 – 38 senior list, nine rookies in line with other AFL clubs.

similar thing happened to us, Freo and Port, you had to drop players off. GC's seem to be less dramatic however, which actually creates more salary cap pressures because they have to keep more for longer

Yea, good call mate; you wouldn't think they'd go through this if he was intending to leave; if they went through a charade that ended with him not signing on, you' imagine it'd make his last 12 months here pretty uncomfortable. So the fact it's being discussed now can be viewed as a positive; if he was going to go, he'd simply put them off until the end of the current season.

Also, the other thread was better ;)

do the names Geoff Raines & Roger Merret mean much to you?

When we joined the AFL all team lists were a maximum of 52 players (due to the reserves competition). The list numbers dropped for every team, us included, from that initial 52 number. Unlike the GC we were not given any advantage of a bigger list than other clubs.

Hope that's true, even if they play hardball I would love to see that we still stay committed and get his signature on the line rather than the "take it or leave it" approach.
