Crimson you're of course correct, it couldn't possibly be draft tampering yet.
But I do feel Tippett is really pushing the rules. It is pretty widely accepted that if he did get sent to the PSD he would still end up at Sydeny as his management has made it pretty clear he has no interest in going to any other club. I don't see this as being too different to guys like Pyman/McKay/Chambers who wrote to clubs telling them not to draft them. They were sanctioned by the AFL.
Sydney have nothing to lose, good luck to them. In theory they could offer their final pick in the draft to Adelaide but it's only common decency and good PR that prevents this. They are only doing what most, if not all clubs would do if faced the same situation. Tippett on the other hand is behaving like a petulant child who seems to think he's a free agent. I wonder if would spare $80 of his fortune to refund my little nephew who saved his birthday money to buy a Crows jumper with his number on it?
I know we're not the first club this has happened to and, unless the AFL tighten the rules, won't be the last.
I know what you're saying but if he's made it clear he won't go anywhere but Sydney then Adelaide have no choice but to accept whatever Sydney put on the table. If we let him go to the draft then only Sydney will pick him up. Although he's technically probably not breaking any rules he is holding the AFC to ransom. Our only choice is to re-draft him out of spite.I don't see it as pushing the rules at all. He's not free to sign with the club of his choosing but he is free to refuse to sign off on a trade if he doesn't want to go.
For Adelaide's sake I hope it doesn't.Is it too optimistic to hope this saga is finished tomorrow?

Yes like I said earlier, Sydney could offer pick 80 if they wanted and the situation would be the same. I don't know what the solution is either but the current system is broken when a player can hold a club to ransom like that. Perhaps they must be required to nominate a minimum of 3 clubs?Yeah i get that it's not ideal from the AFC perspective but given your lack of options pick 22 is pretty good. I can't see how the rules could be changed to make it fairer. You drafted him at 32 get 5 or 6 years service then get 22 + change on the way out. It could be a lot worse.
Who's paying Tippett 1m?
Attaboy. Anything bar speculation?Denial is not a river in Egypt
Noone is paying Tippett 1mDenial is not a river in Egypt
Here are a just a few comments from only the first page of responses to the trade from Bigfooty Adelaide sooks regarding the LJ "bargain".
Yeah no need to thank Sydney for being good mates of the Adelaide FC. Just be grateful Tippett didnt decide he wanted to go to some other club that dont have such a good relationship and history of fair trading with the AFC...knowing the situation they wouldnt give a rats arse about "fair"
...and still the whinging continues.
"we're being dudded"
"sydney arnt offering fair"
Short memories.
Whilst you bunch of sooks have a cry about a player wanting to leave and thinking you arnt getting "fair" in return...more than fair already arrived for you only last season.
Our first round draft pick and prospective KPF Lewis Johnston...a guy that cost us a 1st round pick, named AA CHF in the U18 team a few years ago...asked to go home and Sydney did more than accommodate him without fuss and without asking for much in return.
There was no trying to screw a few rungs up the draft ladder, no trying to wrangle anything out of Adelaide that they didnt want to part with...just help him go home coz thats what he wanted.
For a 1st rnd KPF pick with his training wheels just coming off, we settled for a pick 60ish in return that Adelaide really didnt care too much about anyway.
When you open the other eye and stop complaining you'll realise that Sydney have been rather generous of late and perhaps, just perhaps the AFC know this, and the guys that matter from both clubs dont have such short memories.
You already got your more than fair and generous just last year...a no fuss bargain basement exchange you were pretty chuffed about.
What goes around comes around.
Didnt see Sydney acting like someone stole our lollipops.
Johnston schtupped Horse's missus, only explanation for Sydney letting him go so easily
Armstrong has zero value.
Noble is a witch doctor or something?!
Apart from Johnston schtupping Longmire's wife, this is the only explanation.
Level of excitement is through the roof, I mean ... seriously ... how did we, holy shit ...
I'm proud, club.
You do also realise that Sydney had just re-signed Johnston.Holy shit. I don't know what the **** is in the water at AFC HQ but i like what it's doing
That would explain why Sydney had just re-signed him for two years before Adelaide spent all of trade week needling for him.You traded out LJ because he didn't fit into your infamous and inflexible 'culture.
Nice work Bollox. It keeps going and going in that thread too, all about how Noble had committed robbery and Adelaide were laughing all the way to the bank. Lots of mentions of how Armstrong was going to be delisted as well
Did we have 700+ pages on how our club was being bent over? And that's with Johnston contracted. We probably would've been lucky to get a 4th round pick if he wasn't.
