He's 29 with back problems, West Coast need an injection of youth. First rounder and a player like DGB is fair. You're delusional if you think he's worth two first round picks.

Steven May in his actual prime was traded for Pick 6.
Then we keep him? Youre the ones coming after him and we’re “open” to letting him go but we aren’t just going to hand him over for a packet of chips.

I think if we are being honest here the Eagles are well aware this is a chance to move on a player that won’t be around when they are contending again. I think both parties are aware this is in both clubs best interests.

They can want what they like, but at 29 years of age he's not worth a top 10 pick!

Prepare for disappointment then.

It's Hawks 1st plus something else.

Was Weller worth pick 2 from the Suns? No he wasn't.

If a club wants a player under contract and commits to them they pay up. Doubly so when said player is under contract for a further 3 years.

It's not in the Eagles interest to trade out a player in high demand by multiple clubs for 50 cents in the dollar.

Barrass is not actively being shipped out .
He has a mega offer in front of him that we won't match.

We also won't stand in his way as long as we are well compensated in line with a gun contracted KPD that is getting a mega offer
This is what people are missing. It’s not a fire sale. It’s “you can have him if you hand over what he’s worth”

Hawthorn clearly think he’s worth a bit with the contract they’ve put in front of him so the trade needs to reflect that.

A little thing called common sense can be applied here. You think Barass is coming to you on a paycut?
Ok, apply common sense you say! Lets do that, so your saying $900k is a pay cut and he’s being on this contract for 2 years already. So 2 years ago $900k would have made him one of the highest paid players in the league! And even today and for the next part of his contract at the Eagles he’ll be right up there, so why would he wanting to pack up and leave for what would be at the max maybe an extra $100k a year?

Huh? He is on like 750k and we offered him a pay rise that he wasnt happy with. We also offered a 4 year deal and you are offering 5 as another point of difference

He isnt joining Hawthorn out of charity.

2x 2nd rounders or a 2nd and a player (yet to be identified) is Hawks proposed offer. Hawthorn has determined that at 29 that is his value. The 5 year deal is true but that is the lure for Barrass to leave and not an indication of what trade value the Hawks believe is needed to satisfy the Eagles.
Garbage, that's not true

So a poster said we are offering 900 a year for 5 years and I responded saying how would you know that. You said common sense says he isn’t taking a pay cut!!!! Now you’re saying he’s on 750! Make up your mind.😉

As reported, the below would be much be closer to some of the ridiculous stuff being said on here, Hawks will also be dipping into their next year's picks to create something more than this yrs 1st.......

According to Sweeney’s report, “the Eagles are expected to ask for hefty compensation should a deal be struck, such as multiple first-round selections”.

Due to the Hawks’ rise into the top eight, their first draft pick is currently No.11.

It is their only pick inside the top 20, meaning they would need to get creative to satisfy West Coast in a deal.

Nah, they wont be

It will be our first + maybe a late sweetener

Definitely, but thats because we’ve identified there’s a strong market for him and we could extract fair or overs for him. If we’re only getting a single late first I think we’d rather just keep him for the rest of his contract.

This isn’t a salary dump or trying to get a token pick for a player wanting out. This is a blockbuster trade for a star of the comp (adjusted for age).

#10, #28 and DGB

For

Barrass and a future third (likely #39-44)

No one wants DGB, genuinely a shot at being delisted. Adding him to any deal actually makes the deal worse.

Let's not push a false narrative that West Coast are pushing Tom Barrass out of the club. The guy is a vice captain and premiership defender with three years left on his contract.

Barrass' manager sees an opportunity to extend his contract that West Coast, reasonably, aren't going to entertain. It is likely Barrass plays more finals for us if he stays but he won't be part of our next premiership push.

Between his body and his football and family circumstances, there is an opportunity for Barrass to extend his career on good money and play in a premiership, and West Coast are open to trading him. Understand that we do not have to trade him.

As a side note, West Coast kicked in a little extra at Hawthorn's request on the Brockman trade. It wouldn't be unreasonable for Hawthorn to scratch our backs on this one.

I imagine this will be rather quick.

First pick straight swap will do it. Maybe a DGB or a swap of late picks as steak knives.

The idea of a future first or a future second being thrown in (without something equitable coming back) is a fantasy.
Your first rounder is rapidly losing value as you rise up the ladder though, what a quandary.
