Speculation Tom Barrass [UFA 2027] - Reportedly headed to Hawthorn

Freo sent their leadership group to have coffee with him, not sure WCE did the same, considering he's a massive WCE nuffy and only nominated them once McQualter was appointed.

I mean, as fun as melting is, I'm sure deals will get done for all players that will be reasonable enough.

The trade period is way too long, it’s ridiculous!

I’d like the AFl to role FA / trade and draft in a big two week televised event:

F/A 3 days
Trade 7 days
Draft 4 days

bzparkes you're not that naive are you that player managers and list managers are constantly discussing opportunities for players to move during the season.

Hawthorn didn't just randomly wake up one morning and say 'Hey, let's trade for a contracted player, hmmm Tom Barrass could be that player'.

It was made known he was interested in moving elsewhere. Notwithstanding the 'handshake agreement' that was reneged on or that fact that your list manager wants to get young talent to rebuild with.
Sure.

But WCE are still going to need an offer that satisfies them for a contracted a grade player.

Fairly simple to understand, I'd have thought.

Please comprehend “ Irrelevant “ contract if eagles have pushed Barrass to look around.

Personally I think Barrass will be annoying if he was told to find another home by the eagles.

As I said before, don’t like the offer … Keep Barrass, it’s not the end of the world for us. We offered what we consider fair value and eagles rejected it. No big deal….

We did our duty of care to the player.
You offered him more years and more money.

You hunted him , he and Eagle's didn't hunt you

We would have pushed him to St Kilda if we had a say. Out of all the teams possible Hawks are the worst options

Doggies/Sydney/St Kildahave more then you to offer

Works both way though, Hawks don’t have to pay what eagles want either.
You think they didn't know what Eagles wanted before asking Barrass to publicly commit to them?

Seems like they knew already then tried to lowball on the first day and WCE told them to go and find something better.

You make a lot of assumptions, no one has stated or shown any evidence the Hawks asked Barrass to make this news public.

Yep, agreed. Hawthorn are showing their disingenuous side.
Had a few wins toward the end of the year and became all cocky.
Let's see if they can sustain that effort into next year or will they do a Carlton and slide back.
Not the first or last time a team have gotten ahead of themselves.

You’ve taken the media’s line as truth. The eagles could have been consulted with the recent draft pick exchange…. In fact they may of even like it.

Guess we will find out soon.

The fact he's made the request means it would end up public, as he's committed to one club.

Which means Hawthorn would've said they have the trade capital to satisfy west coast to release their full back, who has a 3 year contract with the club.

Great. So Barrass for F1st then? Great pick once we slide back..

Then why come for a contracted player to begin with?

Because WCE said they were ok with him leaving. Particularly as it saves the embarrassment of renegging on a handshake deal.

If they said he was required and going nowhere it would have ended then.

3 years from now Eagles with him are worse than if he goes. We will be fine either way. Which is why all of us are wanting the club to stay with our reasonable offers.

Has any non Eagles supporter said we are trading in bad faith? There may be something to that.

He did. And 2 of his goals came from marks where Weddle was in front, took the mark, then Hogan just grabbed the ball out of his hands and was awarded the mark.

In theory there is a rule that says the man in front gets the mark, but these days umpires almost always award the mark to the forward because the AFL favours goals over anything else - because Ch 7 get to run more ads.

I think most Hawthorn supporters would be okay if the deal ends up not happening because we refuse to be bent over. Deep down I think most WCE supporters will be upset if it doesnt go ahead.

Like Saints supporters (and their President) when they thought they were only getting Band 2 comp for Battle saying they really wanted Battle to stay but its all cheers once they got massive overs for him.
Excuses

They said they were ok with him leaving, provided they get fair compensation.

What's so difficult to understand?

The Hawks are working on a way to get a fair compensation deal done.

Relax it will get done.

Na. Disagree!

Been many trades fall over before as two clubs couldn’t agree on value. Contracted or Not…..

There really haven't been that many, especially when one side has spent months working on a player to nominate them.

The ones you're talking about are the surprise ones that seem to pop-up at the start of trade week, list managers have a quick chat and decide it's too much.

WCE and Hawks would've spent months discussing the value.
