Ralphy reckons the Hawks didnt even offer the f2 with pick 14, they just wanted to do 14 for Barrass+f3.

Idk fellas but thats not goodwill trading right there, at least come to the table if you want a contracted A-grader...
As Hawk fans have been saying for days - I hope this puts into perspective how unrealistic the 2 1sts idea was.

Can everyone stop. These things are true.
1. All media is biased to whoever pays them
2. All media is crap and unaccountable
3. All media is enabled by us
4. Liam Baker isn’t worth a first round pick
5. The hawks blues trade was known to the eagles
6. Tom Barrass

Yet every year clubs place a premium on trading into the current year.
There is a not-insignificant value on not having to wait a year to use the pick

That's because in the current year particularly on the night you are largely trading for a specific player not a pick and clubs will always pay overs for the former. But the idea that next year's draft is always weaker is fallacy. Journos are just guessing.

We rejected 14... Why would we accept your return for pick 14?

It would have been a 3 way trade in your example...
No you didn’t, it was 14 and a f2 which from all accounts the Eagles would have excepted but the Hawks wanted a f3 to come as well. So a 1st and 2nd round pick is what the Eagles wanted, now they can get it!!

Im not talking about this years draft being stronger/weaker or whatever. Current picks are always worth more than future picks because you get an extra year of development into the kid

TB at around pick 14 is fair if being honest (10-12 IMO). The problem for Clarke is he conceded on an early teens pick for OOC Baker. If Baker was a realistic price (2nd) then we would have got 14 and lost a second for the Barrass/Baker transaction which is about right on the net difference. Baker for Barrass with zero or marginal net difference will lose Clarke his job. If pick 3 is lost without 2 top ten picks replacing it, then we are in GC/early Freo drafting territory. Would have to look for another team if that happened.

I think it shows what we think his value is. Which as it turns out is only an Eagles F3rd away from where WC officials value him.

WA media on the other hand...
Its been reported that the deal the Hawks actually offered was pick 14 alone. The Hawks gave up after waiting for a response.

I wouldnt have responded either if I was the Eagles, laughable offer

There were lots of pre trade period arricles about 2 1sts, which set WC fans up to be dissapointed as was way above market value.
They were always in reference to pick purchasing (paying Barrass salary) and a WCE 2nd going back (so a slide of a few places). The market value from WCE fans has always been relative to the OOC Baker value. If OOC Baker is valued 14, IC Barrass needs to be more. Hawthorn has been used as a trojan horse by Carlton trying to ambush WCE pick 3 for FOS. Hawthorn has definitely lost all leverage, totally flunked the trade. WCE failed by conceding Baker value and will be totally ruined if pick 3 is traded. We have the two worst list managers.

Hawks have ddone the best thing

Now kick back and wait for Eagles to come with documents signed for the last day
Eagles want Barrass gone more than Hawks want him at the club

Hawks 1
Eagles - 0

10 minutes left in the game
Only 1 of these clubs is a chance to make finals... & that club is lacking a quality key defender.

Hawks have far more to lose if this trade falls over.

Exactly. Which is why I don't understand all this crap from the Vic media that all the pressure is on West Coast to get this deal done.

If you want the guy so badly, and if he's gonna vault you to top four status and whatever more, then satisfy the team who has him contracted for two more years after this one.
