Yeah, Warren Tredrea was only All Australian CHF in 4 consecutive years (the only CHF to have a better run than that is Wayne Carey AND it should have been 5 - but voters were getting Tredrea fatigue) while winning these awards in 2004 (while being a premiership captain):
BUT HEY GUYS! JONATHAN BROWN IS ON THE FOOTY SHOW! AND HE'S BEEN ALL AUSTRALIAN... 2... times...
- AFL Coaches Association 'Champion Player of the Year' Award: 2004
- Herald Sun Player of the Year Award: 2004
- 3AW Player of the Year Award: 2004
- The Advertiser Player of the Year: Award 2004
- Triple M Player of the Year Award: 2004
- The Age Player of the Year Award: 2004
Tredrea is so ridiculously underrated on this board it's criminal. Until Buddy Franklin, he was the most dominant forward since Carey.
I will be the first to say that Buddy has now surpassed Tredrea.
But people have obviously forgotten (or never paid attention to) how goddamn good and dominant Tredrea was. I believe the common call of the time was "like a man playing amongst boys."
Here is a better list:
1. Wayne Carey
2. Dermott Brereton
3. Stephen Kernahan
-----------------------------
4. Roger Merrett (how a 300+ game CHF who played the first 10 of the last 25 years not even be considered is beyond me!)
5. Jonathon Brown
6. Scott Lucas
7. Nick Riewoldt
------------------------
8. Matthew Richardson
9. Brendon Gale
10. Barry Stoneham
Essendon supporters, man.
Merrett isn't a consideration because he has neither the statistics nor the accolades to get anywhere near the top ten. You've left out players who Merrett isn't fit to tie the bootlaces of.
I'd love to hear your arguments for how Merrett, Gale and Stoneham were better players than Warren Tredrea, Barry Hall or Matthew Pavlich.
Christ.

Stoneham:
241 games and 223 goals
Victorian State Of Origin representative
Geelong Best and Fairest 1990
All-Australian (in an era when it was a lot harder to get) 1992
Geelong Captain 1995-1998.
Carey, Brown and Riewoldt are the indisputable top 3 the rest you can argue about.
Also, being Captain of a side is no indication of playing ability, and shouldn't determine ones place on a list.
Can easily do Merrett.
Dual Premiership player 1984/1985.
Brisbane Captain 1990-1996
Victorian State Of Origin Captain 1985.
Queensland State Team Captain 1991.
313 games and 433 goals.
VFL Reserves Best and Fairest (Gardiner Medal 1982)
Topped Brisbane's goalkicking 3 years running 1993-1995
All 3 played State football - all were either club or state captain in at least 1 season.
.
Carey
Brereton
Tredrea
Kernahan
Led their sides to a flag.

Where did Sumich play?Funnily enough - we've never had a decent CHF at all.
