When you look at all round contribution it’s very hard not to make a case for Hawkins but they aren’t going to pick him as a ‘third’ forward or a small, and when it comes to picking the two KPFs goals are a heavily weighted currency so he would need to climb the Coleman rankings to get in I think.
No doubt he’s in the best 2-3 forwards overall across every facet of play but it’s like saying do you pick a batsman at 6 who’s averaging 50 and does nothing else or an all rounder who averages 38 with the bat, 29 with the ball and catches everything that comes to him

I daresay all those balls that were coming in at his feet in the early part of the season are a big reason for all those ground balls... Not Tom's fault though. He does look almost as agile as ever.
Tom Hawkins just passed Michael Moncrieff, David Neitz, and (for the time being) Eddie Betts to move into 29th spot on the all-time leading goalkickers' list, with 632 career goals. Alistair Lynch is just one goal ahead.

The best thing about Tom Hawkins career is that the goals themselves only tell part of the story; throughout his extended golden years he's managed to contribute and impact in a number of ways; e.g. the F50 rucking only really became a consistent string to his bow in 2019 AFAICR (< does that fly?) and that added dimension to his game serves to underline Hawkins' ability to develop and refine his game over a long career.

If he could get to 700 goals which is a distinct likelihood, while it would be hard to mount a case that he’s been BETTER than the other 700+ goal forwards, he’s certainly in the discussion as having one of the best all-round skill sets.

Op was incredibly wrong but think the thread where one poster demanded we trade hawkins for freos Walters 4 years ago got it even more wrong.

Hawkins has indeed elevated himself the past four seasons. It just makes you wonder how much his 2013 back problems ruined the peak years of his career.

How awesome was Hawkins' game on Friday? Continues somehow at his age to be underrated. Should have been judged bog imo. I think he could very well win the Coleman medal again this year.

and there's still a few more rounds to go. He won the Coleman last year with 49 goals.
You forgot McKay who is leading on 46. Can't see Tomahawk making up a 9 goal deficit in the space of 7 rounds.

If you add everything he does that most forwards don't do you see a clear picture of what i deem the best Key forward in the comp again this year.
