The circumstances are very different. JPK was a half decent player when he left Hawthorn, nothing special. Tom Mitchell has already put in performances that rate among the best for young mids in the competition.

It's not exactly the same circumstances but they are similar because of your plethora of talented mids, his struggling to get a game

He'll get his body right and be in the best 22 easily next year

I think a mid clearly in you best 22 is going to walk out at some stage, either this year or next. With cap pressures and the likes of heeney and perris coming through and callum mills in the future I think clubs might be circling

I think he's still contracted for two more years

The review of that GF will be savage.

Combination of older players retiring (Shaw, Goodes) and perhaps some trading will occur. Mitchell will play more next year, and if he doesn't he will get gone by end of October 2015.

I think he should of played this years final series. I look at Langford and his September and I'm sure if Mitchell had played he would of given Syd something but clearly I speak with the benefit of hindsight.

Either we get Mitchell or we don't, honestly I am unfazed. He's 21 after all. Who cares if its this year, next year or 3 years later. Syd will not keep everyone particularly with the COLA being phased out, so its a matter of time. GWS in particular is going to be a goldmine, and Syd might prove to be almost as good.

He's got rocks in his head if he wants to go to Carlton

I know all that. It's almost certain we will end up having to use our first round pick on Moore. That said, if a club has a firm plan for a trade involving their first round pick, they're less likely to bid with it.

I don't think Brisbane will bid because at pick 4/5 they're just as likely to still have a shot at Wright or even McCartin. Plus, they have a number of talls coming through their academy.

Doggies remain the most likely to bid in my view.

Carlton won't bid on Moore now as well be down a midfielder with Beams
Leaving.Make Mitchell attractive to us at 4 wouldn't it?:D

What? And become a 300 game player for the blues? 6 of 1half a Dozen of the other.

At least he would have the opportunity to play in front of 80k+ crowds on the MCG very frequently. He would be a good get but he can stay if being a fringe player excites him so much.

Losing in front of 80k people is no more exciting than winning in front of 40k... ;) (sorry, couldn't resist..)

Mitchell will be a regular for the Swans next year, particularly with the late season over-reliance on JPK to win the clearances. We need someone to share the load.

Interesting so whose spot is he going to take... Parker, Jack, Hannebery, Kennedy or McVeigh?

You underestimate our list management.
All clubs need to be vigilant & aggressive with list management now that free agency is in place. We started that last year when we recruited Buddy. We were prepared to lose Mummy, Everitt, Lamb & White, all senior players, as it generally improved our list. The proof to back it up is that we finished the H & A season on top. We will do the same again this trading season &the next & the next. If clubs sit on contracted players that have expressed an interest to go back home in the future, then they are negligent in their job should they lose that player to FA when they could have made a decent trade while they were contracted.
Dangerfield & Beams are a prime example.
So when you say "a mid clearly in you best 22 is going to walk out at some stage", our club will make sure that we do not lose a player for nothing.

Something I heard from someone within the club when we recruited Buddy & I raised my concerns!

Consistent match winners get the big bucks & there are only a handful in the AFL with one that stands out more than the others.
I'll let you work out who that is.

Without Buddy this year, All Australian Nick Malceski wouldn't have played in a GF!

Therefore some players on our list are replaceable!

Depends on player movements I guess, although with rotations there are more options than just those 5. Obviously not Kennedy's spot because the whole point is reducing his load, not removing him. It could be a case of McVeigh returning to half back or others moving forward.

I think the point is that Mitchell is at the point now of being fully ready to play the top flight, so the Swans are unlikely to want to swap him for an unknown draft pick.

As othe Swans posters have raised, it's not as simple as a mid for Mitchell coming in. Goodes, Shaw both should retire and Malceski is all but gone. That gives us three spots to fill. In my view, we could McVeigh back to half-back where he's spent time during 2013 to cover for Shaw and against Freo in 2014 QF when Mal went down. Shane Biggs could then step up and take the other backline spot. With Goodes out of the forward line, McGlynn or Jack could go up and spend more time there and there you go - one or two spots in the midfield for Mitchell. Also, this is supposing we're lucky enough to have a full strength list at our disposal, which is rarely the case.
