Traded Tom Phillips [traded to Hawthorn for pick #65]

So he's on $600k??? Which club in their right mind will pay that for Phillips?!!
That’s a random figure taken off another pies fan site. I don’t believe for a second that he’s on that much, it’s at or even above the peak market value he had early last year. Much more likely to be 450-500k

Phillips & 2020 1st for Freo #10 & Connor Blakely
Phillips & 2020 1st for Suns # 5 & W Brodie(or 2MP)
I'm assuming you're using 2020 1st so you can keep pick 14? Anyway, I think you might be underestimating how difficult it is to move up in the draft. For example, Freo paid pick 10, 26, and a 4th to move up 2 spots last year, and in 2016 GWS paid 3 and 18 to move up 1 spot to pick 2!

Using a (very) rough guide, in order to move up in the draft you generally pay about 150% of the fee in points. Future trading into the first round is about the same. e Melbourne trade 2019 Future 1st (Pick 10), 26 and 50 for Pick 10.

So, for Magpies to get Pick 10 from Freo, Collingwood would need trade their current pick 14 and find the equivalent of pick 18-21 in value. Is Phillips in this range? Possibly. Let's say he is. In this instance, Connor Blakely doesn't add anything to the trade or needed to get it done. Clubs prefer to trade other players separately unless they are crucial to the trade (Acres, Crisp etc)

What does all this mean? I have no idea, but if history is anything to go by the following are more realistic:

Phillips, Pick 14, Pick 69 for Pick 10

Forget about pick 5 from the Suns.

What's his value ? can these trades work

Phillips & 2020 1st for Gunston & 2021 2nd
Phillips & M Lynch for T McDonald (late pick swaps)
Phillips & 2020 1st for Freo #10 & Connor Blakely
Phillips & 2020 1st for Suns # 5 & W Brodie(or 2MP)

thoughts's ?
Wouldn’t have thought so for the Gunston one, if we are as bad as most are predicting next year it will basically be

Phillips and 17 or 18 roughly for Gunston and an early 20’s pick.

The apparent lack of interest from Hawthorn with Isaac Smith likely out the door is making me feel horribly anxious.

Attempting to land Phillips as a moneyball selection is a no-brainer IMO. I'm concerned we are once again trying to focus our energy on a star player who doesn't directly suit our needs. Still have nightmares over our 2018 trade period.

No way to the first one. Phillips and a late first in a compromised draft for Gunston and an early 2nd in a stronger draft?

I think he's worth a 2nd-rounder. Hopefully we can package something together with him to move up a bit before a pick for Reef comes in, or otherwise stock some points for 2021 where big bids for Daicos will surely come in.

With no Isaac Smith and Ricky Henderson, all the more reason for Hawthorn to trade for Tom Phillips.

Like Tom Langdon?
Were you trying to say Ed Langdon?

Doesn't strike me as a Clarkson player. Can't kick.

As opposed to Tom Scully who cant kick, run, handball, mark, tackle. He does consume oxygen very well to be fair

I mean Scully can still run but yeah the rest is pretty accurate.

Phillips a big upgrade on current Scully.
