It actually affects the AFL as a whole. It compromises the draft system and keeps the bottom teams down when they can never acquire established players, because it means that teams like Hawthorn can give up whatever they want and teams like St Kilda can propose to give up the farm, but never actually acquire anyone due to their relatively low standing. It means that the draft becomes meaningless because teams like Hawthorn never have to give up high draft picks, because the system has dictated that they can acquire players for less because of nomination by the players.
I agree this is the BS part of it. AFL rolled over too easily to the AFLPA. Free Agency should've been accompanied by the clubs' ability to trade a player without consent being needed
In saying all of that wouldn't you, as a player, want to be coached by Clarko as opposed to some of the other options out there?
The rules are the rules much like Paddy or Gary saying "I only want to go to Geelong" (which meant you got them both on unders and, in Paddy's case, a shit trade going the other way). In this instance we benefited from it.It doesn't surprise me in the least that nearly all the Hawthorn supporters in this thread have little to no integrity at all. As I previously said, you'd all be screaming black and blue if you were a team like Gold Coast or St Kilda down the bottom of the ladder.
