Traded Tom Scully [traded to Hawthorn for a future fourth round pick]

No it's because they had a very very tight cap with a lot of important players they need to re-sign he was injured at the time and that made him more expendable (Also not on the level of Kelly or Coniglio despite being a very very good player).

Seriously it is not hard to understand why he was traded, they needed to move him on and he wanted to go to Hawthorn. This limited how much they could ask for in a trade.
Spot on.

Lol if you think this trade is normal you are delusional. I say well done hawks but something not adding up here. How do you go from “might never return” to back in round 2 lol?

Certainly does seem strange how the narrative went from 'his ankle is shot and he might never get anywhere near his best again' to playing in ROUND 2!

Middle of the year yeah sure, but round 2?

If he does well how the **** did Hawthorn get such a steal, and how could GWS be so wrong and inept?

Yeah i get that their salary cap was tight or whatever, doesn't mean you just give away guns for future 4th rounders.

That situation happens quite often...doesn't mean you just give gun players away for future 4th rounders.

They played hard ball with Shiel and got 2 x 1st rounders out of Essendon.

They could play hard ball on Shiel because they cleared out Scully's contract

He's playing. No one said he is playing and will immediately return to 2016 form. I mean he might, but he might also be rubbish for 5-10 weeks.

O'Meara played the first 3 games in 2017, then round 6, then the last two rounds. He played most games last year and was pretty consistent (i.e. didn't build from a slow start or run out of gas). Nathan Brown played Rd 1 in 2006 after breaking his leg against Melbourne. He ended up playing 10 games for the year which were mostly average, then started to return to form in the second half of 2007 and 2008.

People are getting a bit carried away with something that hasn't even happened yet. GWS and Hawthorn knew the risk vs reward at the time of trade.

That’s my point!! Good to see a hawks fan thinking outside the box lol

Gotta be something dodgy about this. A fourth round pick for a genuine gun winger almost made sense when it was Hawthorn taking a punt on his totally ****ed ankle, but he's debuting rd 2 FFS.

There ought to be a Royal Commission about it.....Gawd Damn it.o_O

It’s the fact that we paid 2 tenths of ferk all that irks people. I get it. We’re good at this shit.

This trade blows people's minds because you just don't see salary dumps in the AFL. Joakim Noah signed a 4 year $72m a year contract with the NY Knicks and they gave him away for nothing in his 3rd year and are paying him the last $18m (his 4th year salary) over the next 3 years to just be elsewhere.

At the time it became known Scully was available I thought he'd fetch more, but GWS obviously thought it was good business since he was a contracted player.

Deepfake technology is getting scarily sophisticated. So who is the chump they’ve loaded his face on to?

Tom Mitchell. A brilliant move on two fronts. Firstly it allows us to play Mitchell again without tipping our hand on our cybernetic organism research facility. Secondly, when his team mates call 'Tom' and he responds, the commentators will be none the wiser. The trick will be keeping his possessions well below 30, as 45+ will raise suspicion quickly.

The body doesn’t have an exoskeleton though

Scully’s first 2 or 3 games as a Hawk may be a little rusty, but he’ll regain form quickly. He’s a quality footballer.
