He joined Sydney for 2012 and to be nudged out by the likes of Mattner, Malceski, Smith, Rohan, Rampe, Shaw and players like McVeigh mopping up there is no shame. Sydney are a very settled team so it's hard to break in there.

Will he be a champ? Highly unlikely but at this type of pick in a shallow draft it is so low risk it's not worth breaking a sweat over.

As for Armstrong himself, I know nothing about him and I like to think I watch a fair bit of the swans. Don't know whether that says more about him or me.

Armstrong must have something, he played a couple of good games at Sydney.
I don't think he will be in our best 22 but its sometimes not about that, depth is just as important and 'plug & play' players have a place on lists

I think we still have 2 list spots to fill, if we only use picks 6 & 10 then upgrade Dwyer. That would leave us with 38 on the senior list.

Should we draft a player, it's a 2 year deal. Trade for him or pick him up as a delisted FA, we can do a 1 year deal. See Jordan Russell.

If he doesn't work out, we've lost absolutely nothing. Better that then be stuck with a late pick draftee, who we'd have to payout and include in our salary cap if punted after a year.

I can see the value in picking him up. We need guys with footskills out if the backline. We have made very minor investments in Yagmoor, Oxley and now look to be with Armstrong. Throw them to the lions and see who is left standing.

If you don't have the opportunity to take a near-certainty with an early pick, grab a few possibles with late/rookie picks and have a genuine competition for the role.

I'm not wondering why - I was pointing out that they're generally representative of the attitudes towards the move in response to someone saying that they're just for humour.

Im guessing you don't remember after the 2010 Grand Final when people dredged up all the old posts criticising maxy and shamed the people who'd made them?

How bad was Armstrong in 2012? Consider we had long term injuries to Alex Johnson, Lewis Roberts-Thomson, Marty Mattner, Rhyce Shaw, he still couldn't get a consistent run in the team as a defender. We moved McVeigh down back which was a huge call at the time as he had started the season on fire as a half-forward, and then saw the likes of rookie listers Dane Rampe and then Shane Biggs towards the end of the year jump ahead of him in the pecking order. I'm not surprised he's looking elsewhere as his future at the Swans looks pretty bleak.

I don't see the harm in this. Why not give a guy with high end foot skills a shot? He will cost us nothing. If it flops, it flops. Big deal. Worst case scenario he is depth for 2 years. I'm more than happy to give the guy a go.

At 183 was he really a replacement for Johnson, LRT or Mattner? I reckon Rampe was more his competitor and with Tom Mitchell having a great season I think you could afford to have McVeigh mopping in defence. If Rohan plays out of defence and Shaw returns to fitness he is hard to place in your side.

May do nothing for us but we don't risk anything in bringing him in in this year.
