I guess he'll just have to cry himself to sleep with his Brownlow, 8 All-Australian Guernseys, 3 Club Champion Awards and pair of Premiership Medallions :(

And hes not the only one with a Brownlow. Not the only one with All-Australian Honours. And not the only won with B&F awards. Hird has them. Buckley has them. Harvey does. And many others.

So tired of Crows supporters making out that Ricciuto is unfairly targeted. The guy is just above average amongst a group of less than memorable players.

Cousins All Australians spanned 1998 - 2005, brownlow, 4 times Club Champion, Rising Star 1996, MVP 05

but..possibly comes in 6-7?

Voss
Hird
Carey
Buckley
Ricciuto

Riccuito was a 7x AA in that time, Voss 5x AA and Cousins 6x AA.

All would make a top 10 list from 95-05, especially if it was being based on consistancy.

As a crows fan it wouldn't be biased putting Roo is a 'top 10' list because he had been one of the best. Leaving him out is just silly.

If Mark Ricciuto had the exact same career for Collingwood, Carlton or Essendon he might just get the kudos he deserves from the wider football public.

Getting ahead of yourself aren't you? He only has one premiership medallion iirc.

heres my opinion

1 Nathan Buckley
2 James Hird
3 Michael Voss
4 Robert Harvey
5 Simon Black

Nathan Buckley coz the guy averages over 25 possesion a game, averages more ranking points than any of the others in the herald sun, most consistent, fantastic ball winner, can kick a goal, ABSOLUTE CHAMPION

Agree with the list except Black. Wasn't good for enough of those years imo. Roo would get the nod for mine. The order of the list however... tut tut

1) Michael Voss
2) James Hird
3) Nathan Buckley
4) Mark Riccuto - suffers from playing in SA, less media coverage
5) Robert Harvey - good player, but a touch below the above 4.

He is in the top 20, what does it matter where. He outranks both Cousins and Voss.
AA's selection is a dodgy measuring stick.
And player influence is subjective and differs greatly.
They are all barely seperable....

Carey's best was pre 1996. He might still be in the top five for his post 1996 play, but I doubt it.

Bucks really has played the most consistent top footy over the last decade, with maybe 2 years below par due to injury.

Ricciutto is tremendous and like Buckley its more about his hard work then his brilliance 9and both have some brilliance about them). My feeling is he's a couple of years off serious contention for the top 5.

Voss is there. Hirds best is so good he's there, and although hes been injured a lot hes done it more than McLeod (the only bloke as magical as Hird for mine).

I reckon people who want to put Rob Harvey in there have to get him past Roo and I don't think Roo makes it yet. Harvey has played acres of consistent footy, but really hasn't controlled games the way the top 3 have.

Cousins and Crawford may look like air-head fools off the pitch but as footy players they are hard and consistent and one-on-one winners. Maybe they're in my top 5 ahead of Ricciutto.

Oh of course you would have the Blood Smearer at the top of your list.
Everyone with a brain would have voss and Hird ahead of him.

...so you're tipping Buckley? ;)

What about Hammil? Football people severely underestimate his contribution to the development of the current St Kilda juggernaut!

The original post sounds like a brownlow count...dominated by midfielders.

My top 5:

Wayne Carey - best player of the last ten years hands down. 2 flags were built around him.
Tony Lockett - The most dominant full forward the game has seen.
Michael Voss - Architect of by far the most successful side of the era.
James Hird - All class.
Nathan Buckley - Classic receiver.

Cant do 5 coz once u get under the top 2 they all have sifferent styles and been played differently.

I'd rank them this way

Carey
Lockett
Voss
Hird
Harvey
Buckley
Riciutto
McCleod
Matera
Akermanis

Good, but would put Judd in instead of Black

idiot, its since 1996

I would have

1.Hird
2.Voss
3.Harvey
4.Buckley
5.Black/Akermanis

its really the best midfields over the past 10 years...

Buckley is certainly not a reciever..... he won the hardball gets 4 the pies in 2003. thats a very big call........ buckleys skills are immaculate, harvey has won two brownlows, however, both of them were won due to suspension of in 96 chris grant and in 97 corey mckernan. Plenty people are puting voss 1st i have never seen him win a game of footy of his own boot i have seen hird and buckley. consistency u wood certainly have buckley number 1. people are also sayin judd. he has only been around since 02. Cant really put casrey in there it was the twilight of hid career. He had evry opportunity to win a brownlow aswell so can not fit him in

That comment is so far off the mark its embarassing for you. Ask the players who have played against all these guys who is the best and Voss would win hands down. In his prime, his peers judged him as so much better than Buckley, Hird and all others it was scary. He won the players MVP award by a country mile a few times in the early 00's.
