Weller is already down the pecking order, he doesn't have the fitness or experience Ross requires to play.

There is only one way for him to break into the team next year and thats to rip up the WAFL 25+ Disposals a game.
He could dominate the preseason running and perform strongly in the match sim training.

I don't think that guarantees a regular gig.

Didn't Crozier do this and didn't even get picked for round 1?

Bennell would be a good get but I hope we get Jetta and heres why... Jetta could play on the wing and up forward. When the swans won the 2012 flag, he kicked 40-45 goals. I am willing to see Freo trade our 1st round pick for him then use our 2nd pick on a Key forward. I can see Jetta replace Ballantynes spot.

Bennell >> Jetta

Jetta isn't worth a 1st rounder, he has managed to plummet his value.

Would like to see at least 4 or 5 ready made players come in we need to change it up say Bennell, Macarthy, Bootsma, Josh Walker and one other unfortunately I dont think Crozier will ever play his best football at the Dockers and Weller you must give something up and to get where you want to be.

It's interesting, the club will need to read the winds. If Bennell is open to moving to Victoria, securing him will become a shit fight and perhaps Jetta will be an easier catch with less baggage. I appreciate the ceiling won't be as high. But if we prevent him getting to the Eagles and still add some outside speed and depth for a 1st rounder, id back Jetta to develop further under Lyon. His defensive side can improve a lot and he already has the offensive side of the game down packed.

Be careful what you wish for, trading one or two key players for specific gaps is fine, but I think trading in too many players can be destabilising.

2008 Michael Voss believed his improving Lions were approaching a premiership window and traded aggressively:

They let go players who were "fringe" to bring in ready made players from other clubs. What that did to the Lions is still being felt, with the team unity that they had built up destroyed in one short off-season.

Trading in a bunch of players can lead to disharmony in the group and one of the things I love a bout our club is the way they stick together through thick and thin. As evidenced by Fyfe backing the "crabs" we all love to bash. Will Fyfe still "live and die for Freo" if he sees these guys traded out just to churn the list? Let the kids at Peel deverop and push them out by natural improvement- I think we have some real gems who will help us build a real winning culture around guys like Fyfe, Hill, Walters, Neale etc.

Jetta has proved his effort is questionable.

I can't recall Bennell's effort & talent ever being questioned. Only his off field stuff.

I see Jetta as the greater risk.

Also Jetta has played in a defensive game plan, perhaps he is more suited to an offensive one.

Apart from Fevola none of those players are in the same class as Bennell, McK and Jetta who are all young and with upside.

That's a big stretch and he was so immature as a coach at that point.

Unless he intends to leave after 2016, trading Weller for Bennell is completely pointless.
Why? We don't need to wait for Weller to become 'good' in 2-3 years. Say Bennell comes in and plays for 7-8 years, we lose what 2-3 years of Weller playing? We need to get in 2-3 ready to go AFL players that are in the 22 and if we can get someone like Bennell in those 2-3 then it's a bonus.
I seriously don't think Weller is going to be as good as Bennell is. Hope I'm wrong but that's my current thoughts.

Agree on McCarthy, don't entirely agree on the others but that is a personal opinion. Would not mind getting 2 of those three, just think calls for 4 - 5 changes are a bit over. If we can only get one it should be McCarthy as he is filling a desperate need - Jetta and Bennell may not end up being better than Weller or Langdon - who knows? And Bennell comes with baggage.

the trick is to improve your list, not break even. We need to use picks and keep them both. I watched a replay of the Port match 2 nights ago and on closer scrutiny Weller was excellent. Equally as good as brady grey but with better disposal. I might be wrong also, but I think he is going to be a gun.

You can't make a call like that. You don't know how Weller will develop yet we can see Bennell has off field issues. As unfortunate as they are he is a risk. You are selling Weller short btw.
Agree, we are too quick to write off a first round draft pick who has not had an opportunity to show his wares. We could as easily have traded out Fyfe for a "proven" player from another club.

Let's trust our recruiters have done their homework, and from what I have seen of Lachie at Peel I think they have.

I know I'm out of step with most people here, but I think character is a hugely important thing in building a club's culture. Getting someone from the Suns' "party" culture might be as silly as getting Sylvia from Melbourne's mediocre culture

Scenario 1 : benell use freo to get better offer from Vic team just like clark.

Scenario 2 : Weller actually want to stay but knew freo use him as trade bait, unhappy stay another year let contract run off.

Scenario 3: nobody come in, left with suban and co

Scenario 4 : end up like calton. Sack Ross with bad result.( pav , Sandi , macca gone)
