Does anyone think that the club is making cap space by off loading the likes of Treloar and Stephenson, to give us cap space in the future, so say in 2 years time we can pay more to De Goey who will want more $ and for when our younger players will want more $ as well?

Are seriously suggesting that he takes off his Presidents hat, and exposes all the issues at the club.
Doc you’ve lost it mate.

He doesn’t need to say anything inflammatory in his role but chooses to. The comment about the Jack Steven presser was unnecessary.

It’s not bad enough that he shat on use the first time he left, he got to come back and do it again!

Will he? Last time I checked he doesn’t even have a premiership medal :)

Averaged 28 disposals & 5 tackles a game in 2019. Had a down season this year but name a Giant that didn’t. Almost felt like you were inferring that you wouldn’t have him...
He was injured early on. Played out of position. Spent most of the season on the wing or HHF.

His contracted salary would be locked into projected TPP. Obviously, they’d like to recoup as much of that as possible but I doubt it’ll be an issue either way.

Whether we pay him 800k or 50k (for example, extreme ends of the spectrum) is a massive issue either way I'd say. If the club was hoping to get rid of him cheap and theyve ended up paying him in full or close to it, then thats extra cap stress that the club has to face.

I wasn’t overly happy when he left the first time but we got pick 5 (JDG), pick 25 (turned into Greenwood) & Crisp. So that part wasn’t so bad really. The price we’ve paid getting him back (picks, cap & list adjustment) for zero return is what is continuing to kill us! Debacle.

We wouldn’t need to back-end contracts to this degree if players were paid properly.

- Phillips is quoted as 500-600k. That’s 100-200k too much.
- Cox is quoted at 500k, he’s a 350k project player
- Beams, shouldn’t be on the list, 400k
- Your boy Langdon, 500k
- Grundys deal hasn’t even kicked in yet, that’s 100-200k too expensive depending on if he’s on that 900 or 1mn

We have a history of overpaying players, Mayne & Wells two often used obvious examples.

Phillips after his 2018 season was worth that salary - he’s now been replaced by Daicos. So now because he’s superfluous to our needs hr is suddenly a burden to our cap.
Langdon was worth every cent of $500k in 2018 - remember Swans wanted him.
Then he aggravated his knee injury in 2019, and all of a sudden he’s over paid.
If he was playing like 2018 no one would be questioning his contract.
Beams isn’t on the list - and I don’t recall outrage when he was recruited at $400k.
Cox - was he expensive after you watched him play in the 2018 PF?
Since then he’s had ankle and eye injuries. He is every bit a $500 player if he continues his late season form that everybody was lauding.

Guy didn’t sign Wells or Mayne.

So really you’ve really not made a case.

I hope not, otherwise we're ****ed

Anyone think how bad this situation actually is when you consider these players have just come off the books?

Reid
Varcoe
Sharenberg
Broomhead
Dunn

yes and it’s depressing, we also lost Aish last tear
Add Phillips, Treloar, Steph and Cox and that’s 25% of our list lol.what the heck are the others being paid?

The extension was only recently signed with the full knowledge we’d also want to sign Grundy, Moore and JDG to new contracts, and had a plethora of other players coming out of contract. I’m not sure why people would believe we’d sign up to that deal without fully understanding how it would impact TPP over each year of it. Or why we’d subsequently proceed to sign other deals with Checkers, Daicos, Greenwood etc. Or why people would discount the retirements of Reid, Varcoe, Danny, and the delisting of Shaz and Broomy as having cleared some TPP. I’m happy for you to believe it, as illogical as it is. I’ll wait for something more substantial than some social media tweets.
You’re right that the people in charge would be aware of all the machinations of ow everyone fits in. My guess is we may have paid more than we hoped for Moore, DeGoey and Grundy because they held out so hard and that has caused the angst.

So if AT goes to GC we will look to get Wil Phil at pick 5 (6) but if AT goes to dogs via a 3 way trade with dons we could get 6-7 (7-8). Who do we get with that pick?

My opinion, it's not worth losing Treloar unless we get pick 5 and we're confident Will Phillips is available.

This is last time I say this - he’s the host of a Football Show if you don’t get that every such program covers controversial issues then you don’t understand the media.

Doc you’ve lost it mate.
That's the issue, isnt it? He wants to know all the ins & outs at other clubvs, and cracks it when other clubs shut up shop. But goes on the attack when the shoe is on the other foot. As I said, he's a hypocrite.

He should give one role away. I'd happily vote him out if given the opportunity.

And yes, I lost it years ago!!!

Hang on, so deals that were good deals at the time, but have since become bad deals, are still good deals because at the time they were signed they were good???

Riiiiight

You do realise this is how it works don’t you? Clubs get sucked into a patch of form, overpay then regret it later. You do that enough and you have a busted cap.

Stick to your day job....

He went out of his way to clip a rival club on that one, he’s allowed to handle controversial issues but maintain some tact and be political.

You reckon GC wouldn't give up pick 5 for Treloar if he was willing to move? They've already said they would. And they'd be crazy not to with their list, he's a great fit.

If teams play a hard deal worst case is we keep Treloar (a quality player) and we have a tighter cap for a year, until we can shed some medium size contracts.

I think you're right to suggest holding fire until this plays out. If we do cave and give up Treloar for peanuts I'll be furious, but I don't reckon it will play out that way.

Agree Quicky.
GC is the one side that might possibly pony up because they are so desperate for top end talent to choose their club.
I think this is our only chance, but it sounds like AT has made it clear he does not want to go there.

Don't get me wrong. I believe Treloar to be worth pick 5 and more. I just have no faith we will get fair value after the way the club has (appeared to have) handled this so far.

Even if we do get fair value, the club should not be proud of this whole episode.
Side By Side - nothing but marketing rubbish.

Agree, he needs to STFU more often. Choose between media or being President.
