I posted this in the trade review thread but thought I'd place this in here too...
Hopefully I ain't gunned down for this but here it goes....

My take:
-Phillips + Atu didnt bother me at all in terms of trade return.
I have wanted to offload for Phillips for the last few years and his $600k inflated contract made it even easier to do.

-Jaidyn Stephenson
This one, there's obviously more to it behind the scenes. Club was hell bent on getting rid of him and whilst I think he is a massive talent and am disappointed we didnt retain him, I wonder as to why there was only one genuine suitor which happened to be lowly North Melbourne for his services?
A kid who we all rate highly--and not one other club wanted him at a pretty cut throat price. Alarm bells?

- Adam Treloar
The one that has polarised and divided fans the last few weeks....and i wont be popular here but once news started to break we were looking to offload him, i was hoping this deal would go through.
The main reason is I question his lifestyle choice and living arrangement and with his mental health concerns----it doesn't fill me with confidence.
Then you have the inflated salary and if reports are true the playing group wanting him shipped off.

I'm going to give people a bit of a breakdown purely on performance alone since Treloar has arrived at our club up until his departure and this may not sit well but this is factually all correct and accurate:

These are the 5 main names of our midfield (the core if you will)
-Scott Pendlebury
-Taylor Adams
-Brodie Grundy
-Steele Sidebottom
-Adam Treloar

The first 4 names in the same timeframe since Adam's spell at our club have either been an AA or had multiple AA jumpers; and have either won a BnF or won multiple BnFs too.

Adam Treloar has zero in both categories.
When you look at that--how can he be the highest paid player in the team almost let alone ahead of that midfield quartet when they've all had better achievements than him?
This makes him the most expendable name at the end of the day---it's brutal yes but it's true.
The club has made the difficult decision based on all of the above.

Next trade period we must take advantage of another clubs pain. Salary cap squeeze. It will happen to another club to a varying degree, every year. It's as good a strategy as to chase a FA which you usually have to end up trading for, or pay overs in $.

Are they the words he used - a 'suite of future 1st and 2nd selections'. Can't imagine how more inappropriately the word 'suite' could have been employed.
That’s what he said

I agree that there was value into getting those players off the books, but the club should have either stated their salary cap issues or at least try and ship them off earlier on, there is no value in getting those players off the books at such low picks or at a pick downfall like we did for Trealor, he is still top talent as a footballer.
A pleathora of even 2nd and 3rd round picks, both current and future would have been WAAAY more beneficial when trading him for unders in order to secure academy talent. Now, we've gone backwards in both the Draft and the team, I don't see a scenario in which this is better, until super long term or we look to land a big fish next year

Its a risk for North, no doubt.

If he turns it around, is that a poor reflection on us?

The price North paid us for him is already a poor reflection.

Sounds like his behaviour was abhorrent, but get a decent deal ffs. Im also convinced if he was on 300k not 500+, we would have got a better deal or tolerated him more.

We are people's thoughts.

Give up 14,16 and future 1st

Adelaide give us pick 1 and second rounder ( use points for Reef)

Take Logan at number 1.

could something like the work or we could offer the same with North and pick 2 if we think Adelaide will go with the local lad.

Adelaide won’t do it. Simple. They probably have a list manager with higher intelligence than Forrest Gump

Pretty good summary.

For me, its not so much who we lost, but what we got for them in comparison to what we paid for them.

Two 7s for Treloar and a 6 for Stevo, added to the cluster fu#k of the two first rounders for Beams, added to the cluster fu#k of the salary we paid to Wells & Mayne added to the cluster fu#k of an idea to bring in Gubby Allan, which led to Neil Balm leaving for the second time.

That's twice Balm has felt compelled to leave - both destinations went on to win 3 flags in quick succession. He obviously knows what he is doing, which puts him at odds with anyone currently employed at the Collingwood Football Club or currently on the Board.

This episode, for me, is more a "last straw" scenario. When will it end??

It probably is. If that post yesterday was anything to go by, Stephenson was sh*t to coach.
Stephenson must have seemed OK to coach in his first year and probably his second. It's only this year that timidity became an obvious factor but as this flaw hadn't seemed evident in previous years when he was being played closer to goals, you'd really wonder how the timidity had suddenly appeared in his game. Didak showed that you don't have to throw yourself fearlessly into every context to be an effective player.

Well that's a disgraceful admission. We would have won the 2019 prelim with Lynch at full forward and possibly the GF. Why weren't we chasing him?

My opinion for some time has been that, Buckley has full control of the steering wheel. Buckley does not rate tall forwards and therefore we have not actively pursued any.

I would be surprised if we actively pursued Cameron.

I posted a week ago about a rumour from someone who normally has pretty good mail but sometimes I think he makes it up.

He told me that Stephenson didn't really apply himself that well at the club and that also he had had a physical altercation with Harvey (too funny if Harvey gets the North coaching job). The club disciplined him by not playing until they didn't have much choice. Good kid but not yet professional and relies on his natural talent.

Sadly for us I think this move will be good for him and not sure why we didn't manage better if true.

However given his obvious talent it did surprise me that other clubs weren't interested.

I would much rather Harvey going, I really can't see what he brings to the club after all these years.

I'm not going to pretend to agree with all of this but it certainly is well reasoned.
