" Patrick Lipinski is a talented midfield/forward who was snapped up with a second-round (pick 28 overall) selection in the 2016 NAB AFL Draft. A former basketballer, the Northern Knights product has clean hands and is composed under pressure. "

A basketballer? Welcome Patty.

We need to take our medicine and accept a couple of lean years and not repeat things that have cost us like trade/swap future 1sts.

Imagine if history repeated and we finish last next year with No Daicos to save us from burning the place down.

If we really want to get a jump;
Play to our potential and finish bottom 4
Bite the bullet and orchestrate Degoey leaves as a free agent and gets 1st Band compensation and get two top 5 picks. Basically what Essendon did last year
Same with Elliott, Sidebottom and get a couple of seconds. If Aiden Corr, Conca, Dalhaus got their their clubs a 2nd so should our two

Result.
2 X Top 5 picks
3 X 2nd Rounds (2 Via Compensation)

There’s a lot of variables, Apex

what are the talks like in next year’s draft?
Are the ones you speak of better?
Will the 2023/24 drafts be “compromised “ because Vic kids can’t develop any playing regular comp?
Does it take away flexibility in terms of trading in 2022?

I’m ok if they swap any pick for a gun

tough call
You’re right, there are a lot of variables, but in a period where we’re clearly trying to rebuild, and judging by last year, going hard at it, I think it’s a discussion worth having. I’m probably more bullish on our list than most here, there were several games where we should have walked away with the W this year and just couldn’t get over the line, and we did actually beat some quality opponents too.
For me, if we have access to a KPP who we rate inside the top 10 this year, then I’m happy for them to make that trade, because I’m not as convinced as others that we’ll be bottom 3 again next year.

If Lynch goes, would we pick up a cheap back-up ruck, or is the expectation that Begg or Cameron would just fill that role.

I think just for the look of trading a 1st round pick out again, isn't what Collingwood would want to do. Also no certainties given the lack of under age footy in the last 2 years - so NO
Based on what we know about how Wright and McRae operate, so you think they’d be more concerned with how things look externally, or doing what they believe is in the best interests of rebuilding the team?

Serious question, not being a smartarse.

Kind of agree

I think you need to back yourself in
I really want to keep 2022 first rounder but if the club honestly thinks that they can grab a gun KP this year, then fine

As I mentioned in my previous post, I'm worried about using high picks in 2022/23 in terms of player exposed form - a guy taken at pick 1-10 may not have the exposure needed to make the best judgement
in that case, getting a player in that you've been able to assess my be the right option

TBH - I don't know

Ha ha... very salty of you at the end there.

Rather than speaking to Riccardi, Schlensong, etc... we should put our eggs into a theoretical pick swap getting us a top 25 pick this year.. an 18 year old who then after 3-4 years development... may or may not be a decent player? See McLarty

That would be list mismanagement. Hopefully Wright and co are thinking of both improving our draft hand AND taking a mature KPP

Imagine if they just focused on 18 year olds? No Roughead, no Dunn, no Mihocek, No Cameron... going further back... no Leigh Brown, Wakelin, etc

P.S Wright has been a fine pick up for the bombers. Clearly not worth his initial salary but has offered them a ready made target inside 50 and a ruck option. And it’s not like the bombers have gone backwards this year for playing him

Absolutely no saltiness I genuinely don’t think you have a great sense of how bad we are in that part of the ground and the folly in loading up on speculative types. What’s that saying about insanity?

Of course that pick might be the next McLarty, but the odds are more heavily stacked in favour of it being the next CCJ, Mackay, McStay, Hipwood, Lever, Tarrant, Darling or Georgiades over finding the next Dunn, Roughead or Mihocek from your band of merry cast offs.

Out of curiosity, how would people feel, if on draft night, we were to trade our future first in order to draft Gibcus or Amiss?
Totally irrelevant tangent, but the fact that a kid called Amiss is a sharpshooting forward makes me chuckle

If its between us and Carlton. Surely we are more attractive. They won't even have a coach for the next 30-40 days.
Hard to say and I wouldn’t attach too much significance to the claims yet.

If terms and money were the same I guess our advantage will be easier to get a best 22 spot and more stable recent history as a club (exclude last 12 months) v Carlton, further into development of list, closer to finals and a group of very highly rated youngsters which provide a great list base.

Could go either way

Yeah. I guess we'll see in the coming weeks when he does nominate.
Depending on the dogs outcome this weekend, might even happen next week.

Great Q, this is how I would play it.

Once we get Daicos, offer our future first (sell it as if we are projecting toward a bottom 6 finish to other clubs) for a pick where we can land a KPP this year and get a future first back the other way.

EG
- I would start with Freo @ pick 8 (which will slide back to 10) they will have carlton's pick 6 and they believe they will move up the ladder next year. I would try and trade our future 1st and 2nd round pick for their pick 10 and future first.
- I would also try the same with the Saints as they believe they will push up the ladder next year.

I think a few clubs fit into this bracket and I think we have a real chance in cashing in 2 first rounders for the price of 1 that will aid the rebuild.
