Don't you think though that our injury problems were sorted out by the time we got round to the Prelim? I think we had a bad run during the season but by the time the finals came round we were only really missing Murphy,Wallis and Redpath and we can't be sure Red would have held his place anyway. I thought that being back to near full strength played a huge part in us winning both flags.
Well it helped a lot getting back the ones we got back ...........but Murf, Wallis and Red aren't nothing - and Suckling ? Just saying there was bad luck on both sides.

Chris Dawes as a DFA anyone? Put the Collingwood premiership forward line back together? :p:drunk:

Didn't we try to bid pick 21 or something for him about 3 years ago? I'd love to take him free as a rookie and see if Bev could make anything out of him. Lots of injury issues yes? Feel a bit sorry for him TBH...

Honestly couldn't give a shit about Koby and Rat going or what we got for them. They're run of the mill AFL players and we've already got plenty of cover across their skill/position set.

I know people get attached to players, but you've got to think it through with a critical mind. If we miss them at all next year it would only mean our list has been decimated by injuries. List fillers.

Hammer was the one I didn't want to see go. Filler mids are a dime-a-dozen. Capable tall backs aren't. Can't say we didn't get value from him for his two years though.

I'm ok with no Delideo. The challenge with these mature recycled players is they block the young fellas from games and then they p*ss off. I don't underate how good he is but taking him or not may be the difference between retaining Dale or Webb who already look stretched to get senior opportunity next year. We need to work out if they fit in that top 22 over the next 14-16 months and so do they.

Gonna be another interesting trade season next year if the bulk of the Williams/Dale/Webb/Dunkley/Collins/<insert more unconcerningbulldogsyouf names here>/... continue to come on but can't get regular senior appearances...

apologies if already discussed:

Rory Thompson from Gold Coast will be a free agent at the end of 2017. He is from QLD which makes things more complicated. Haven't watched much of GCS lately as they make for depressing television, but really rated him a few years ago.

Thoughts?

I know:

1. We were very confident Hurley was coming. Still burns......:(

2. We were red hot on Motlop and vice versa until the finals came and went. We were prepared to give up our first rounder for him prior to that.

3. Vardy was keen, as we were, until 1) we won the flag 2) Nic Nat and Lycett both went down and 3) campbell unexpectedly re-signed.

4. Adams never requested, nor pursued a trade. He was honest with the club in that he was struggling a bit in melbourne, and that if it suited the club to trade him this off-season, he was cool with it. We leaked it to the media for our own purposes.

Think Igloo is bang on the money re the Tigers player that wanted to come, but that we rejected.

I got no Intel at all on the Deledio stuff.
I still think Motlop would have been a great fit for us, just the way we move the ball. That last Cats final Motlop had a massive hit early on and was obviously shaken up imo

The way Quayle paints it, Bev was not interested in Deledio until GWS showed an interest, and then we tried to get him to keep him out of their hands.

Thats probably the first ive heard of some team going for a player in such a strategic manner - to deny a specific other team, rather than to address an issue in their own team.

How do we feel about that?
if it works for us, teh

if it works for us great. it is a very tough competition. any advantage we can get, great and pursue it.

Bevo trying some next level shit.

I wonder if Hurley now regrets not signing with us, as he re-signed with Essendon before finals.
don't think he would - it's not like we've come out of nowhere to be a really good, young side. that we won the premiership wouldn't fill him with any regret imo

Sounds like to me that we dodged a few bullets there. Even if we didn't mean too. Delidio still got me stumped why we'd entertain him. I'm not sure if Cloke can regain his form, but he's exactly the type
we need just depends if he can get it together. Hurley would have been a good get.
