I’m guessing Dunks wants one year to get him to FA, I’d be saying it’s 3 years or nothing tbh

That one year to get him to FA makes it tricky for club and player.

I can see why Dunks would want 1 year deal and club would want 3 years plus or minimum 2

Something to consider about recruiting Jones is the effect on the players and officials at the club. How comfortable would they feel about getting on planes, buses and sharing change rooms and hotel rooms with an unvaccinated team mate? If one person can act on conscience or belief not to be vaccinated then others can have the same reasons plus the added issue of medical science not to associate with that person.

Seems a bit odd that his current deal was set up so it finishes 1 year short of FA. Odd on both Dunkleys and the clubs side.

I think we are over-stating player and club reactions to Jones' vaccination status. If his actions are within the AFL rules that will allow him to play next year, then I'm sure his vax status will not be an impediment as far as the club and players are concerned. Jones is the one who will suffer most from his vax status, as if he contracts COVID he is more likely to suffer a quite adverse reaction than vaccinated players.

Few on here acting like if Bont sits next to him he will get a super Covid and die on the spot

How comfortable they would be in what way? Fear that the entire club is now at a higher risk of a Covid outbreak because one player isn't vaccinated, or because he didn't 'buy in' with the entire AFL playing fraternity and get the jab last year?

The AFL industry is not mature enough or lucrative enough to offer a player a '1+1 with a player option' like they do in the NBA and it doesn't make sense for Dunks either. The risk is just way to high that he has a severe injury and misses out a big pay day. Different in the NBA when you can sign a one year $20m deal.

My god do people seriously still give a shit about this stuff?

It's time to move on, Australians.

Yep. We met with him recently at Chris grants house. He wants to come back and play afl.
Wow did not hear that, great news if possible.
Looking at the dees game, there were far too many times the ball moved out of our fwd line to the dees fwd line without a single touch by a dog.
We need an experienced intercepting defender who can cut off that attacking motion where the ball goes over our midfield without a contest.
If Liam is fit he is a great option

What??? You realise being vaxed doesn't prevent you from;

1. Getting it
2. Transmitting it
3. Getting the full strain

Vaxed or not, one player isn't going to make a difference to the "dangers" and anyone who says different is either naive, ignorant or a lying politician.

The team wants to win flags, pretty simple really and if Jones can help then I'd imagine they would be happy having him.

What would we get for Dunks port's first currently pick 8.
I'd be asking for more than that. 8 and extras. He's a much better player than Cerra and is hitting his prime. That being said, IF he does go, Sammy P will do a great job no doubt.

Despite Bevo trying to deny it a few weeks ago Chris Grant confirmed this morning they did meet just to explore where Jones is at and what his plans are.

He is better yes but the age and injury history probably puts him either par or just a touch under. It'll be 1st rounder

If that’s the case (it might not be) then I’d let him go. He can’t perennially have one foot out of the door. Dunks can either commit to the club for a decent term (at least 3 years) or we should trade him now when we can get decent value. This contract will determine a lot about where his priorities lie.

Melbourne handed out 6 years to Brayshaw, they’ve got an interesting take on list management - handing out super long deals to everyone, bit of a risk - id love to see the numbers/conditions involved in these contracts. Probably gives you a lot of flexibility to move numbers around year to year to be honest.

Yeah absolutely agree - time to commit properly or go.

Can almost guarantee they're all back ended so they'll need to capitalize in the next 2-3 years and will be absolutely rooted capwise in 5

Definitely interesting - hard to say for sure without knowing the ins and outs of all the contracts, but it does feel like instead of handing big money out they're giving players a great deal of security while they have a top-line team. Offsets the risks of giving out big deals but makes it harder to add to your team in that 3rd-6th year.

I think it's a smart move. They're clearly the best team in the comp at their best and have no real reason to slow down in the next 3ish years. If they can pull off a couple premierships with this group and aren't just backloading them all, they're going to be hard to stop for a long time.
