$650,000 according to this article.
Wouldn't offer him more than a one year deal now. If he wanted to explore his UFA then so be it. To use one of Jack Dyer's famous quotes, these past few seasons he's been "a good ordinary player".

JJ, Wallis, Cordy, Schache, Martin, McLean would be $2m pa at least one would think coming off the books.

Wallis Cordy and Stef would be on peanuts Schache wouldn't be on much more and neither would Toby you'd be lucky to be looking at 1.5 from that list
Even if all of Wallis, Cordy, Schache and Toby are on $250k (which I don't believe) & Martin is on $200k that already takes you close to the $2m. There have been reports that JJ's deal was front loaded as well so maybe he isn't on $650k this year.

Taking Hunters & JJs contracts off the list would free up a heap of space relative to the output we get from them.

In saying that JJ still easily best 22 and a key part of our forward half, so wouldn’t want to completely low ball him

They will all be under 200k the average salary is 375k if Bont and co are on 800k+ then there are many under that to even it out. Rookie list players are only around 100k

If dogs get Lobb maybe JUH will play a fwd flank role with stints on the wing. He's mobile enough to do so. Just a question on tank. Right now it's Williams on 1 wing with a mash up of players on the other.
Remember JUH thinks himself a midfielder so wing should be ok once his tank improves more 🤔 maybe 🤣

Technically (if this figure is correct) it would only be about 1.4 coming off as we will need to at the very least replace them with 6 draftees earning 90-105k each.

I would be amazed if Cordy, Schache and McLean are on under $200k.

McLean signed a 3 year extension through 2022 during 2018, when he was a first choice mid and having his career year.

Cordy signed a 3+1 in 2018 ehile best 22 and also during his best year to date.

Schache extended through 2022 at the end of 2019, when he was arguably best 22 and which was his best year at the Dogs.

Totally agree, Cordy and Schache would be minimum $300k and McLean could even be pushing $400k.

I Said Martin Wallis and Cordy. the + 1 are usually on smaller deals. Schache and McClean will be around average so again JJ whos contract is front ended + Wallis/Martin (will be on minimum incentive based contracts) Cordy (triggered year) and Schache/McLean won't be freeing 2 million in the cap as suggested above.

But Cordy's was a trigger on his original deal, he wouldn't suddenly drop from $350k to $200k. Senior players like Martin and Wallis also aren't suddenly taking $100k on one year deals. The payscale is always skewed by the big boys like Bont on $1m and the likes McComb on minimum chips. To wrap my original post, from my point of view because it is most likely guess work I'd say the 6 players I mentioned could free up the following:

  • JJ $500k-$550k (assuming he front loaded up to $1.5m in the first few years)
  • McLean $350k-$400k
  • Schache $300k-$350k
  • Cordy $300k-$350k
  • Wallis $200k-$250k
  • Martin $150k-$200k

Even on the conservative side that is $1.8m.

The cap space may be moot if we can't find an available KPD to pay. Still no serious names connected to us

Saw this on the Gold Coast board

n the greatest sign that his quest to play at the top level again will come to fruition, Jones has told the Queensland football club he has been playing with in 2022 that he won’t be able to see out the season because he has linked with an AFL club.

Palm Beach Currumbin QAFL coach Russell Maloney confirmed Jones addressed the playing group on Tuesday night where he said his bid to reach the AFL again had been successful.

It is not known what club Jones will join but the former Carlton player has met with both Essendon and the Western Bulldogs in recent weeks.
He has got to get ready for pre-season and they said if he gets injured between now and then the contract will be invalid,” Maloney said.

And this according to the Gold Coast Bulletin (It's paywalled)

Jones’ path back to AFL set

Liam Jones’ return to the AFL looks set in stone. In the greatest sign that his quest to play at the top level again will come to fruition, Jones has told the Queensland football club he has been playing with in 2022 that he won’t be able to see out the season because he has linked with an AFL club. FULL DETAILS
I found the full story on the suns board and I posted it on here 3 posts up if you are interested reading it👍

Mitch Cleary has reported that JJ has put off contract talks and that we are leading the race for Jones

If we pick up Jones I may microwave membership

He bugged out of the club once already
He's an anti-vax nuffie
and most of all
HE'S NOT THAT GOOD!!!

I remember saying a few years ago that he was the least skilled footballer in the league, and I doubt much has changed!

Fine, but what realistic alternative for KPD can you suggest we go for? Noting that he also comes without the need to trade for.

I also think he is better than Gardner.

there is a risk there - as he's been out of the game for a bit, but if he comes at a fair/reasonable salary, it's a free hit that is worth a chance.

Depth if nothing else, which we currently don't have.

I suggest you go and check his one on one stats from his last season. They are stupidly good. If we nab Jones and also another good key backman, you should be stoked.

Meanwhile we have Keath who can barely win an aerial contest.

But all good - Keath is triple jabbed so that might increase our chances of a flag.
