Dunkley's value is a little out of whack here.
He's worth pick 8 and a downgrade of lower picks.

The people thinking we're getting a top ten pick and change for a player with Dunkley's deficiencies are in for a shock.
He has his limitations but he’s easily worth a top 10 pick IMO, any club with a need for a big bodied midfielder would jump at that deal. To be honest we’re just not the best team for him to show his best as he needs to play full time midfield, if he went to Essendon he’d avg 30 touches, 10 clearances 10 tackles a game. I think you underrate him a little bit imo, but yeah uncontracted and limited production (due to his role mostly) we’d be very very lucky to get more than pick 8.

Likely already mentioned

But Jones told his QAFL he is now in pre-season training mode and won't play any more games for them
Informed that if he gets hurts, his contract he signed will become invalid.

Likely will be in melbourne in a few weeks if we have signed him

Western Bulldogs (15): Louis Butler, Zaine Cordy (unrestricted free agent), Josh Dunkley, Taylor Duryea (unrestricted free agent), Riley Garcia, Jason Johannisen (unrestricted free agent), Stefan Martin (unrestricted free agent), Robbie McComb, Toby McLean (unrestricted free agent), Charlie Parker, Cody Raak, Josh Schache, Bailey Smith, Mitch Wallis (unrestricted free agent, Rhylee West.

Discussions are progressing on a new deal for young midfielder Smith, who would be the latest signing coup for list boss Sam Power. There is plenty of interest in what Dunkley does after previously requesting a trade to Essendon and still being linked to the Crows. Johannisen’s five-year deal expires at season’s end and his role has changed over the years. Garcia is healthy again and back in the senior side and he will look to prove why he is deserving of a multi-year deal in the coming period. McComb has been a genuine find for the Bulldogs, while West has resurrected his career as a hardworking forward. Wallis underwent season-ending foot surgery and his career is in the balance. Schache has played only 18 games across the past three seasons and it’s unclear where he fits in the future at the Kennel.

To be honest, and this applies to the Lobb situation as well, I think people have a distorted view of what second rucks are/should be capable of.

There aren't really many good ones in the league. It's really bloody hard to compete as a forward and then rest (!!!) in the ruck. A mid resting forward can get away with occasionally lacking influence, but a second ruck can't quite as much. Not many teams play with a true second ruck because there just aren't many good ones - very few are a neutral presence both forward and in the ruck, and you can count the amount that can give positive minutes in both positions on one hand.

Lobb is the best in the league at it this year, almost undoubtedly. Jackson is not far behind and is 20 years old. He is presently a bit overrated but he will be very, very good as both a lead and secondary ruckman.

Agree it's probably the most difficult role in footy. That split between forward/ruck.

Often it's dictated by what sort of main ruck you play. Darcy and Lobb probably the perfect combination due to Darcy being the highly capable first ruck and Lobb probably being the best forward in the comp (who plays the forward/ruck) role who can also chop out. Charlie Dixon also a pretty good one in that regard.

Jackson more suited to the main ruck role imo. His burst out of stoppages is fantastic for a big man but his marking up forward hasn't really been proven at AFL level. Whether it be his forward craft or his contested marking (probably a mixture of both) that isn't great but he certainly isn't hitting the scoreboard nor providing the consistent aerial target Melbourne require.

Interesting the report on Perth Radio only said we had offered Jones a 3 year deal - they didn't believe it had been signed and suggested other clubs maybe sniffing around as well. But if this post is correct, than it would suggest he has signed.

This backs up the SA links are media fluff.

With the Jones scenario does he come in as a DFA under special grounds or does he come as a rookie or draft pick? It's a bit confusing.

I do get what you're saying, but I'm not sure I have many examples of 20 year old 200cm players who also spend chunks of each game in the ruck whose marking/forward play is proven at AFL level.

My point is that there aren't many players who are even neutral in both positions league-wide. I would suggest Jackson is a net positive in the ruck and bordering on neutral as a forward - as a 20-year-old.

Sounded like it’s pretty much done. Just waiting for the AFL to give the final approval.
At what point what we be able to announce it if he has signed on? Would it be during the delisted free agent period? Or basically any time we deem fit? Really has been nothing like this scenario to compare it to.

That seems to be around the mark

Adam Cerra went 5 so that could be a guide.

Going by Bevo’s previous comments around not talking about trade targets out of respect for the playing list, I’d say we won’t hear anything from the club until the off season.

The media however will probably run with it as soon as they catch wind a deal has been finalised.

He will join clubs via the Unrestricted Free Agency

In 2020 Essendon offered pick 7 and a future second for him but we wanted more.

All our draft points being tied up Jamarra would have made that pick redundant. That was probably the biggest stumbling block for the trade.
The point was more about Dunkley's market value. He was contracted back then but against that is 2 more years of solid production and the offer was from lowball Dodoro.

In fairness, Stef did come on a 1 year deal and did well enough to have that deal extended.
True, but it didn't turn out well enough even though he didn't cost us anything. I hope they are really thorough with Jones' medical assessment. Any past injuries we should be worried about? It would be good if we got a ready-to-go player, not someone recovering from surgery or a history of xxx-type injuries.
