I think the backline has been poor but the tall backman havent been a major issue for me.

I think the key issues are lack of pressure on the ball carrier meaning it’s so easy for the oppo to lace out forward targets, our small backs not having enough leg speed to cover space and mostly system (our backline is always open).

I’d say we have lost 1 game all year because the oppo key forwards got a hold of us this year (the first Geelong game and Bev had the match ups wrong not putting Gardner on Cameron).

Saying that another key defender would be nice, but not at the expense of our only defensive midfielder. If we lose Dunkley we need to bring a replacement in before we address the key defender issues.

Given the way the ball enters our d50, I really think Steven may would find it hard to get a intercept mark.

My biggest concern list wise to address team defence is that we don’t have a wingman aside from Hunter (who hasn’t player or has been poor/unfit). My view is a wingman with endurance is our biggest hole. I did like what I saw of Parker in the reserves though. I think he could be the player with a good run of injuries.
Carlton game was also lost due to their tall forwards.

We aren’t losing games because our key backs. We are losing because our midfield gets exposed defensively, our zone is shocking and our bottom 6 don’t contribute.

You take out Dunks we become a lot weaker in the midfield and it weakens our midfield depth.

My preference is (if possible) is to retain Dunkley at all costs. I would have prioritised him over Macrae, smith and definitely Daniel.

In regards to key backs we have Gardner that is serviceable (watch him step it up a notch in a reasonable system), we have a developing Darcy and the option of putting naughton back if we pick up lobb. Subsequently I’m not to phased about a key talls given the emergence of jamarra and that I think darcy can have an immediate impact.

On the other hand, I don’t think we can win a premiership without one more defensively minded midfielder.

I hope your comfortable with mccomb playing a lot more football next year if we don’t find another mid to come in for Dunkley if he goes.
100%

Pressure through the midfield is the biggest issue.

Pressure and speed. The second the other team gets their hands on the ball first it is over. Not one of our mids has any sort of burst pace. David Mundy didn’t have a finger laid on him all game and he is old balls. Even Baz is slow if he isn’t already in full stride.

Hence why getting first use is so crucial for us, and it’s why English is a liability as a tap ruckman.

Certainly not questioning the info, but I can’t see any possible reason why the Eagles would trade Barrass. McGovern looks cooked. Barrass is only 26 so would still be playing by the time they are good again.

Leon Cameron makes sense, best mates with Luke Darcy which would have helped with the pitch to Bevo.

The issue of lace out forward entries speaks to system as much, maybe even more than personnel. We probably have the deepest midfield in the comp. We can afford to let one go to strengthen in other areas. I would rather keep Dunks, but we must make changes and he is the only one that we can / will let go who has currency. To go into next season looking more or less like we have this year is going to end in tears. Bevo himself said that a number of teams have gone past us.

We may well have a replacement for Dunks on the list in West or Garcia, it's just that we haven't seen it yet.

Add the Adelaide game and the port game.

So the Geelong game, plus Carlton, plus Adelaide and Port (none of which I disagree with). I think poor kicking/conversion cost us v Richmond, but would also argue without their talls playing well we're still in with a sniff of that one.

Disregarding the Richmond game, that's still four games - win a couple of those and we're on 12 wins with GWS and Hawks to go, so firmly entrenched in finals. Win 3 or 4 and we're decent bets for top four given how the last two weeks of games are looking.

Our defensive gameplan/effort from the midfield is absolutely an issue, and was horrific on Saturday. But let's not pretend the KPDs aren't also an issue. Even with a cheating midfield we could still be firmly in flag contention if we had a competent AFL KPD group.

Agree, the Barrass I don't get.

Why would West Coast want to offload him, the picks they get they'd love to land someone of his quality. Not sure he'd want to leave either, hes a Perth boy on a good contract that I'm not sure we'd be able to afford anyway.

Like you said not questioning anyones info but I can't see it happening.

Should have kept Lipinski and let Dunkley go. He is leaving anyway but now we have no immediate replacement. Poor list management.
Are you sure?

People keep telling me that West and Garcia can easily slot into Dunkley's role.

Because in the phantasy land of fan list management magic 'draft picks' are always better than established gun key position players.

Trealoar and Baz..?

Or we go man on man..

Give us some back story, Cleveland.

Besides the Lobb stuff, this is pretty big news. Would love to know how fair dinkum it is.
Same bloke told me all of the above. He is reasonably connected to people at the club. Obviously not going to drop names.

Was told. What we get for dunks and our 1st will be heading to eagles.
I don’t mind waiting until the end of the season to see how trades pan out, and hearing supporters hopes is enough for me at this stage.

If someone inside the club is passing on inside info regarding Barass, Cameron and Dunkley, knowing it would be shared on the internet, I hope Bev finds them, then names, shames and humiliates.

Could also be good motivation to share his thoughts on Judas type behaviour inside the club, and continue to harness a strong togetherness amongst those truly committed.

That's what you do in a discussion
What any posters (of any team) think any player is worth in trade value is not worth giving the time of day to - none of them have any input into the actual trade.

To Mofra's point and yours, express your own opinion in a discussion by all means. But what some random on another board thinks is their opinion, and irrelevant to the trade discussion in this thread, unless they actually post it here themselves.

This stuff rarely comes from within the 4 walls, it comes from player managers or friends of players who like to talk alot.

Player managers religiously leak stories and info out to the public to drive up interest and get their clients where they want to go

Next year I would like to see a defensive unit comprising:

Buku Jones Duryea
Dale Darcy Richards

I’m giving Caleb a chance to turn it around so he plays as 7th defender but needs a massive pre season and if he cannot find form then he needs a new role.

Gardner and Cleary next in line.

Williams to the wing permanently or the VFL.

Unfortunately Cordy, Crozier look coked so likely delist.
Keath looks done too but might need to keep him as insurance ala Martin this year.

There will be some turnover of the list during the trade period.

Agree, the Mundy part was mind boggling, was Usain Bolt out there all game.

When you’re feeling good and playing with confidence, sometimes it feels like you’re running on top of the ground.

When you’re not, it can feel like it’s a heavy 9 at Flemington. Same goes for general performance too, which is what we witnessed on Saturday.

Baz isn’t slow off the mark. One of his strengths is being able to exit a contest without any meaningful contact. He does that quiet often.
